Clio, MI – In the hunt for his first career JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance Championship, Billy VanMeter took huge strides toward that goal by dominating the Mudslinger 100 on Saturday.
VanMeter started the afternoon earning maximum points by earning the Fast Qualifier Award with a 15.433-second lap around Auto City Speedway. After the redraw, Dan Leeck and Mandy Chick led the field to the green flag.
The two-time JEGS Tour Champion, Leeck led the first two rotations of the 34th Running of the Mudslinger 100, before VanMeter put his No.23 to the point. VanMeter’s run to the win wasn’t a simple walk in the park, with multiple caution flags throughout the event. On his heels the entire time was fourth-place starter, Jimmy Tucker.
The Mt. Clemens, Michigan, native had arguably the most experience around the Mudslinger home prior to Saturday’s event. Tucker stayed tight to VanMeter throughout the entire 100 laps, including the final 22-lap run to the finish. A pair of restarts in the final run allowed Tucker to get to VanMeter’s outside, but he couldn’t finish the pass and finished right behind VanMeter at the line.
VanMeter’s biggest challenge for the 2025 Championship had quite the day as well. Chris Shannon blew an engine in the day’s first practice session. The VanDoorn Racing Development team quickly pulled out the injured powerplant while Shannon drove to a nearby team shop to pick up a borrowed piece for the race. After starting at the tail, Shannon drove up to a third-place finish, salvaging his chance at a championship.
The next event for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance is Saturday and Sunday, September 20th and 21st at Owosso Speedway for the Owosso Nationals. Advanced tickets are available online at OwossoSpeedway.com.
