(Pensacola, FL) ASA STARS National Tour regulars Albert Francis and Billy VanMeter are among the early entries for the Sunday, March 24 “Sunshine State 200” at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL. The second race of the 2024 ASA STARS National Tour season will be co-sanctioned with the ASA Southern Super Series.
Francis and VanMeter are two of seven drivers who have competed in every ASA STARS National Tour event to date. They both competed at Five Flags Speedway in March of 2023 for the inaugural ASA STARS National Tour event, with VanMeter finishing 14th and Francis 17th.
By virtue of competing in all ten races in 2023 and finishing in the top ten in final car-owner point standings, VanMeter and Francis are part of the Team Construction Winners Circle Program, the car owner incentive program created to reward those team owners who support the series.
Edco Welding, the Indianapolis, IN team that fields the #23 Chevrolet, driven by VanMeter, finished 7th in 2023 ASA STARS National Tour owners points, and Francis Engineering, the Painesville, Ohio based family team for Albert Francis, finished 8th. Francis drives the #33 Chevrolet.
Both drivers raced in the February 13 “Clyde Hart Memorial 200” at New Smyrna Speedway recently. Francis fared better of the two, finishing 17th. VanMeter was in an accident on lap 85, ending his night and relegating him to a 27th place finish.
The ASA STARS National Tour returns to action on Sunday afternoon, March 24 for the Sunshine State 200 at the legendary Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL. The event will be a “Spring Break Stock Car Double Header,” as the ASA STARS National Tour will be joined by the ARCA Menards Series East on Saturday, March 23. It’s all part of a three-day weekend of racing that begins on Friday, March 22 with the season opener for three local classes. All tickets can be purchased online, at 5flagsspeedway.com or trackenterprises.com.
