Top Rookie Drivers Enter Wisconsin ASA STARS Doubleheader

The top two rookie drivers in the ASA STARS National Tour have filed entries for both the Capital 200 and the Father’s Day 100 STARS events scheduled for June 14-16.

The Capital 200 is scheduled for Friday, June 14 at Madison International Speedway, and will serve as race #4 of the ASA Stars National Tour. The Father’s Day 100 is set for Sunday, June 16 at the Milwaukee Mile Speedway, and will mark the half-way point of the 2024 season.

Canadian Racer Kyle Steckly and Nashville, TN rising star Dawson Sutton will each make their Wisconsin debut’s in less than two weeks.

Sutton, driving for RACKLEY W.A.R., enters the Wisconsin Doubleheader Weekend ranked 7th in ASA STARS National Tour Points Standings, and leading the STARS Rookie of the Year standings. Sutton surged to the Rookie Points lead following a 3rd place finish at the Tar Heel 250 in North Carolina, the STARS Tour’s most recent event. The first-year racer struggled in the season’s opening two races, finishing 19th at New Smyrna Speedway during Florida Speedweeks, and 23rd at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola in March.

Steckly, driving for Rhett Jones Racing, sits 2nd in rookie points, and 9th in overall driver standings. Steckly got off to a good start in Florida, finishing 8th in the Clyde Hart Memorial at New Smyrna, but then struggled at the two most recent events – placing 19th at Pensacola and 20th at Hickory.

In a series stacked deep with highly successful short track superstars, being a rookie in the ASA STARS National Tour is a daunting task. Racing against the likes of Bubba Pollard, Steven Nasse, Casey Roderick and Cole Butcher week in and week out is baptism by fire, but Steckly and Sutton are both up for the challenge.

The Friday event at Madison is scheduled as a one-day show, with all on track activity June 14. The Milwaukee event will provide for practice and tech inspection for the ASA STARS National Tour on Saturday, June 15; with Go Fas Pole Qualifying and the Father’s Day 100 Sunday Afternoon, June 16.
