Teepe finally gets Anderson victory

ANDERSON – Indianapolis driver Andrew Teepe got to cross off another item from his bucket list by winning the Tom Wood Honda 150.

Teepe has been close to winning a Champion Racing Association Street Stock feature at Anderson Speedway in the past but finally sealed the deal on Saturday.

Dalton Conner, would win the Five Crown title for the division, led the first 46 circuits from the front row chased by Andrew Cook and Teepe.

The first of only three caution flags waved on lap 9 when Austin Williams spun in turn four. On the restart Teepe, Xavier King and Ryan Amonett all slipped past Cook.

Amonett brought out the second caution flag on lap 41 when his car rolled to a stop with an engine problem and seven laps later Dylan Hoppes brought out the final caution flag of the night for a spin in turn four.

On the restart Teepe was able to take the lead from Conner coming off the second corner when the two drivers traded paint. Conner dropped back at the halfway break.

Teepe led the entire distance in the second half with Json Thompson, Conner and King staging a spirited battle for the second spot.

At the checkers it was Teepe, scoring his second consecutive win, after a victory at Shady Bowl Speedway, winning by 9-seconds over Thompson, Conner, King and Joe Muldoon.

“The car felt good all night,” Teepe said in the Riley & Sons Victory Lane. “I didn’t mean to come down on Dalton (Conner), it was just hard racing.

“I’ve been trying to win here for years, but only seemed to finish second or third,” he said, “but never a win.”

Thompson, who started 12th in the 18-car field, Conner for running him clean over the final 75-laps.

“We were pretty equal,” he said. “We struggled when we first got here today and changed to what I had.”

Thompson said he hadn’t raced at Anderson Speedway for six years.

“Happy to be here with a good finish,” he said.

Conner said he’s dating Thompson’s daughter, so he didn’t want to cause wreck.

“I shouldn’t have lost the lead, I kind of screwed up,” he said. “I just wanted to finish decent.”
