De Graff, OH – The start of the season for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman will come during the traditional Cabin Fever Championships at Shadybowl Speedway in De Graff, OH. The uniquely shaped 3/10ths mile oval offers drivers several chances to take advantage of mistakes and make passes, and gives fans a thrilling platform for side-by-side and bumper-to-bumper racing. Alongside the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman, the Sunday afternoon show will feature Modifieds, Crown Vics, and Compacts.
Last season, a three-car showdown gave fans the thrills they were seeking. Billy Hutson, Josh Sage, and David Barnett monopolized the time at the front of the field even through a nearly field-collecting crash in turns one and two. Hutson led the first rotation around Shadybowl before Barnett put his No.3 to the point. By lap 9, local favorite Sage had moved to the point for the next five laps. Then, the three swapped the lead eight more times before the end of the 75-lap race. Sage, however, got the best of the trio leading the final 25 laps uninterrupted. The win was his first with Champion Racing Association.
In the return of the series for 2024, Hutson may be the odds-on favorite when fans look at the Entry List. Both Barnett and Sage are missing from the list, however, Fort Wayne native Hutson is proudly at the top of the list. He’ll have to deal with a contingent of other Shadybowl Speedway regulars and staple names in Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman competition.
Defending CRA Late Model Sportsman Champion, Caleb Reschar will return in his WIW Roofing No.38. Reschar began his Championship Winning season with a fifth-place finish at last year’s Cabin Fever. Championship hopeful Greg Stilwell, Jr is back to race on Sunday hoping to build on his 8th-place finish last season. 2023 Rookie of the Year, Glynn Neal is back for another season in the No.33. The Owensboro, KY driver posted a top ten last year in his first start with the series.
Local drivers hoping to represent their home track include Austin Eaton, Zach Stacy, Brian Brewer, Mike Howell, Tyler and Matthew Parsons, and Brandon Shively. Any one of those drivers could breakthrough into Victory Lane on Sunday.
The Cabin Fever Championships at Shadybowl Speedway feature the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman going head-to-head with the Shadybowl Speedway Sportsman for 75 laps. Plus, Modifieds are in action for 50 laps as the “nightcap”. Crown Vics kick off the action with their 20-lap feature before Compacts race for 25-laps.
Pit gates open at 8:00 AM on Sunday, April 14th for the 13th Cabin Fever Championship. Practice begins at 10:00 AM, General Admission Gates open at 12:00 PM and Qualifying starts at 12:30 PM. The first race of the afternoon begins at 2:00 PM. Tickets will be available at the gate on race day.
