Rookies Steckly and Kvapil Among Early Entries

Rookie of the year contenders Kyle Steckly and Caden Kvapil are both gearing up for the Tar Heel 250 at Hickory Motor Speedway on Thursday May 23rd. The third race of the 2024 ASA STARS National Tour will kick off the Memorial Day weekend racing scene in the Charlotte area.

The season hasn’t started off as Caden Kvapil would have liked. After an engine issue plagued the team before they even hit the track at the season opener the team rolled into Pensacola looking for a strong rebound. The team however was forced to DNF after just 77 laps relegating Caden to a 24th place finish. Hickory Motor Speedway may just be what this team needs to get the 2024 season back on track. Just one year ago, the rising star from just down the road in Mooresville recorded a 5th place finish against the nation’s top super late model competitors.

Canada’s Kyle Steckly has been impressive in his rookie campaign with the ASA STARS National Tour. The season started off in the LCQ at New Smyrna Speedway for Steckly who was able to secure a transfer spot and then would drive from the back to an 8th place finish in his ASA STARS debut. A DNF after 150 laps at 5 Flags Speedway in race two dropped the team to a 19th place finish after a strong run early in the race. Steckly will look to hold on to the 2024 Rookie of the Year points lead while fellow Canadian Cole Butcher currently leads the overall points.

The third race of the season will begin Wednesday May 22 with Hauler parking, tech inspection and practice. Go Fas Pole Qualifying and the 250 lap STARS Main Event set for Thursday, May 23. Joining the ASA STARS National Tour will be the INEX Legends.
