Clio, MI – On Saturday, September 6th, the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance returns to Auto City Speedway for the first time since August of 2018. In that last visit, NASCAR Cup Series regular, Carson Hocevar swept the evening earning Fast Qualifier and winning the 100 lap event.
The namesake of Saturday’s event, The Mudslinger, has seen many changes throughout the over four decades the race has been held. Auto City Speedway was originally built as a dirt track, and so the first Mudslinger in 1979 was contested as a copycat of Eldora Speedway’s World 100. Ed Howe went on to win the inaugural 150-lap event. The final dirt version of the Mudslinger was contested in 1985 before the track was converted to an asphalt track for the 1986 season.
Many sanctioning bodies have raced under the Mudslinger banner throughout history, including ASA, Main Event Outlaws, and many others. Some of racing’s biggest names have found Mudslinger Victory Lane over the years, and that tradition will continue on Saturday.
Billy VanMeter is in a tight points battle with rookie driver Chris Shannon heading into the final stretch of the schedule. With one win this season, Shannon trails VanMeter by just 25 points. Both drivers are looking for improvement this weekend after a tough race at Kalamazoo Speedway that resulted in DNFs for both Championship contenders.
Several drivers local to East Michigan are anticipating the return to Auto City Speedway, including two-time JEGS Tour Champion, Dan Leeck, longtime competitors, Jimmy Tucker, and Micheal Simko, plus JEGS Tour regulars like Avery Demland, Will Sahutske, Chris Munson, and others.
