Michigan 200 Event Preview

After a month off the ASA STARS National Tour will look full speed ahead to Owosso Speedway in Owosso, Michigan for the Michigan 200 this Sunday August 25th. The Sunday matinee event is shaping up to be a good one with 25 cars now entered.

Sunday’s Michigan 200 will serve as the 7th of 10 races on the 2024 Schedule. It will be the first time the ASA STARS National Tour has run at Owosso Speedway and the 4th time that the ASA National Tour has run at the historic facility.

The ASA National Tour has run three races at Owosso Speedway. In 1977, Junior Hanley was the winner. 1978 would see Randy Sweet win and the last time ASA National was at Owosso was 1979 when Mike Eddy won. Since 1979 the facility has switched back and forth between dirt and asphalt. Currently it is a 3/8th mile asphalt track and has seen several upgrades making the facility one of the premier places to race in Michigan.

The last time the ASA STARS National Tour was in action was at the Anderson Speedway for the Redbud 400 where Kyle Steckly got his first series win. Austin Nason had a strong run and finished 2nd while Gio Ruggiero rounded out the podium.

Other notable drivers in the field are series point leader Casey Roderick. Roderick, who drives for Anthony Campi has a two point lead heading into Sunday’s race. Dawson Sutton is also entered. Sutton won the Father’s Day 100 at the Milwaukee Mile with a late race pass on Ty Majeski to get his first win with the ASA STARS National Tour. Sutton also won the Master of the Pro’s 185 at Owosso Speedway just three weeks ago. Chase Pinsonneault will be making his ASA STARS National Tour debut on Sunday. The young Canadian will be driving for Carson Hocevar Racing.

Among others entered includes Albert Francis, Billy Van Meter, Gavan Boschele, Jonathan Knee, Chase Burda, Evan Shotko, Conner Jones and Blake Rowe.
