Local Florida Flavor Looking To Spice Things Up At New Smyrna Speedway

New Smyrna Beach, FL – The Sunshine State will be well represented on Tuesday, February 13th, as 12 drivers from the state of Florida have filed their entries for the 25th Clyde Hart Memorial. The state’s best drivers will be on hand to battle it out with the nation’s best for 200 laps with the ASA STARS National Tour and Southern Super Series.

08 Tony Elrod – The Lecanto, FL native looks to have a solid run at the season opening event. Elrod has competed at state tracks like Citrus County Speedway, New Smyrna Speedway, and the now defunct 4-17 Southern Speedway. Last season, Elrod traveled out of state and ran events like the North-South Super Late Model Challenge at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway where he finished 10th. Elrod also had a 6th place finish at Salem Speedway last season with the CRASuperSeries.

9 Brad May – A multi-time track champion at New Smyrna Speedway, May found victory lane during the ASA Southern Super Series hosted event in 2022. May has won at Speedweeks in Super Late Model, Pro Late Model, Limited Late Model, and Florida Modifieds. May was the winner of the 2016 Clyde Hart Memorial and has also won events like the Red Eye 100 and the Hart to Heart Breast Cancer Foundation 100.

21 Jeff Choquette – Choquette is a three-time ASA Southern Super Series winner, including a victory at New Smyrna Speedway in 2019. In addition to the 4 Clyde Hart Memorial wins, Choquette has the most Super Late Model wins of any active driver at the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing with 17 wins. He’s also won three Florida Governor Cups and three Pete Orr Memorial 100’s.

27 Bobby Good – One thing is for certain that when there are Super Late Models at New Smyrna Speedway, Bobby Good will be in the field. The Lake Mary, FL driver has been a staple at the highbanked half-mile for years. One of Good’s biggest wins was the 2015 Orange Blossom 100 when he beat a stacked field of drivers. Good also picked up the win in the Marion Edwards 100, back in 2011, during the days of the Brighthouse Challenge Series.

28 Timothy Watson – The Panama City, FL driver competed in the ASA STARS National Tour at the Five Flags Speedway last year. Watson also competed at SpeedFest one season ago where he finished 5th. This season Watson was back at SpeedFest with the ASA Southern Super Series-ASA/CRA Super Series Super Late Models again where he finished 10th in a stacked field.

33 Daniel Webster – One of Florida’s top drivers, Daniel Webster is always one to watch when he hits the track. The Brooksville, FL driver has several wins at the Citrus County Speedway and Auburndale Speedway. Last season, Webster finished 5th in the FL Governor’s Cup at New Smyrna Speedway. In 2021, Webster finished 2nd in the Davidson Memorial 100 at the 4-17 Southern Speedway.

50 Jett Noland – Young up-and-coming driver Jett Noland has found success at New Smyrna Speedway. Noland is a 5-time winner in the Pro Late Models during World Series of Asphalt competition. In 2020, Noland won the Pro Late Model 50-lap portion of the Red Eye and then went on to finish 2nd in the Super Late Models behind veteran driver Brad May. In Super Late Model competition during the World Series of Asphalt, Noland has finished on the podium with two 3rd place finishes and one 2nd place finish. The biggest win of Noland’s young career came last season at the Freedom Factory as Noland was the winner of the Bill Bigley Sr. Memorial 128.

51 Jake Finch – The young gun from Lynn Haven, FL looks to make a name for himself in 2024. Finch has run well at New Smyrna Speedway but is still searching for his 1st career victory. One season ago, Finch finished 2nd in the ASA Southern Super Series Clyde Hart Memorial behind NASCAR Star William Byron. In 2021, Finch took 3rd in the Florida Governor’s Cup. One of Finch’s best finishes came in 2020 at Five Flags Speedway when he finished 2nd in the Pro Late Model Snowflake 100.

51 Stephen Nasse – The super-star has found much success at his home track, half-mile oval, as he was the winner of the Florida Governor’s Cup just one season ago. In 2021, Nasse found victory lane during the Orange Blossom 100. Nasse also won the Clyde Hart Memorial in 2020 as well as the 2016 Hart to Heart Breast Cancer Foundation 100. His success doesn’t stop there, however, as he was the 2018 World Series of Asphalt Super Late Model Champion with one win, two second place finishes, and four 5th place finishes in the 7 nights of competition.

58 Michael Goddard – The Fort Myers, FL driver looks to have a strong run in the Clyde Hart Memorial. Last season, Goddard finished 4th in the Florida Governor’s Cup. The Floridian has also had top finishes at Citrus County Speedway, Auburndale Speedway, and 4-17 Southern Speedway in Super Late Model competition.

69 Michael Hinde – In 2023, Hinde ran 6 of the 10 ASA STARS National Tour events with a best finish of 10th during the Tar Heel 250 at Hickory Motor Speedway. Hinde has found success at the high banks of New Smyrna Speedway. In 2021, he finished 3rd in the Red Eye 50 for the Super Late Models. One season ago, the young gun won the Pro Late Model Red Eye 50 lap Feature.

97 Grant Thormeier – The Lakeland, FL driver looks to make his debut with the ASA STARS National Tour. Thormeier has competed in local competition at tracks like 4-17 Southern Speedway and Auburndale Speedway.

ASA Southern Super Series
The ASA Southern Super Series is a Southeast regional super late model pavement championship racing tour, owned and operated by Tim and Pat Bryant in partnership with Track Enterprises. Founded in 2013, the Series can trace its roots back to the former Southern All Stars Tour and today runs a 10-12 race schedule, competing primarily in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina.
