Cole Butcher won his second consecutive ASA STARS National Tour event Saturday night, beating a stellar field and mother nature at Hickory Motor Speedway.
Butcher, the hard-charger from Nova Scotia, Canada, moved powered by Casey Roderick on a lap 229 restart, surviving a late race red flag, and a ten lap shoot-out to claim his 3rd career ASA STARS National Tour victory. Butcher beat Roderick to the checkers by 1.209 seconds.
Rookie Dawson Sutton finished a career high 3rd, with Matt Craig and NASCAR CUP Series driver Josh Berry rounding out the top five.
The Tar Heel 250, dubbed Thunder in the Foothills, lived up to his name. A rouge lighting strike cracked during victory lane for the INEX Legends Cars, who were running in support, just as Keelan Harvick was accepting the Legends winners trophy. The lightning, and ensuing rain shower, put the show on hold and delayed the scheduled start time. Track drying efforts, including an Air Titan on loan from NASCAR, got the racing surface dry only to have the pesky showers return.
ASA STARS National Tour Founder and Track Enterprises President Bob Sargent was not to be denied, as series and track officials worked diligently to re-dry the track again…with the race starting after a 2-1/2 hour delay and finishing shortly after midnight.

The ASA STARS National Tour will return to action in three weeks for a Wisconsin doubleheader on Father’s Day Weekend.

Founded by Track Enterprises President Bob Sargent, The ASA STARS National Tour for pavement super-late model stock cars debuted in March 2023 for Super Late Model racing in America.
The ASA STARS National Tour is a ten-race championship series, offering a $100,000 point fund. The tour will visit ten different race tracks in 7 states in 2024, with the season beginning in February during Florida Speedweeks, and concluding in early November at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.
