Pensacola, FL — No one could stop Cole Butcher in this year’s Sunshine State 200 presented by Appalachian Sucker Punch at Five Flags Speedway, not even a late race caution. The Canadian wheelman dominated the ASA STARS National Tour event en route to his second consecutive victory in the Sunshine State 200.
The race started with Carson Brown’s Anthony Campi Racing machine in control of the field, but a penalty for not pitting in time during a stage break virtually ended Brown’s winning hopes, handing the lead to Butcher.
Butcher’s cruise to victory suffered a slight speed bump when a late race caution flag flew for a Nicholas Naugle spin. It was all for not though, as Butcher held off a hard-charging Jake Garcia to secure the win.
Garcia made a late race charge through the top five to secure the runner-up position, with Matt Craig rounding out the podium in third.
For Butcher, the win was a testament to Wilson Motorsports’s blistering pace so far through the first two events of the ASA STARS National Tour season.
“I just can’t thank my Wilson Motorsports team enough,” said Butcher. “Yesterday, we struggled a little bit. We found our issue after practice and here we are again.”
“I cannot thank the 35 [of Garcia], the 54 [of Craig], everybody enough for racing me clean. That was a butt-kicking.”
