There are few names instantly recognizable and synonymous with success at Toledo Speedway: Fair. Senneker. Ruttman. Hanley.
One father-son duo that makes a strong case for inclusion in that list is “Fast Freddie” Campbell and his son Brian.
Fred, a Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee with eight track championships at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan, had tremendous success at Toledo Speedway in the 1990s, winning against the region’s best drivers in the Iceman Series and the 1998 Iceman Series championship. He’s also won ARCA Menards Series, ASA CRA Super Series and ARCA Gold Cup super late model races at the ultra-fast half-mile.
Once he stepped out of the cockpit, his son Brian took the reigns. Carrying his father’s familiar No. 47 on the side of his cars, the younger Campbell also found success across the Midwest, including at Toledo Speedway.
Brian earned perhaps the biggest outlaw late model win of his career in 2007 when he won the Glass City 200. He was also the winner of the inaugural “Rowdy 251” at Berlin Raceway and the ASA Late Model Series Challenge division in 2009. Campbell has been a constant threat to win at Toledo Speedway, with six ASA CRA Super Series victories, a 3rd place finish in the ARCA Menards Series in 2004 as well as the first-ever ASA Jegs/CRA All-Stars tour victory in 2011.
Campbell again looks to become the first driver to win the CorvetteParts.net Glass City 200 in the outlaw-style late model and the template-bodied ASA STARS National Tour super late model on September 14.
The CorvetteParts.net Glass City 200 is scheduled for Saturday, September 14 at Toledo Speedway. The day’s activities kick off with two rounds of practice at 11 am and noon, while the starting lineup will be set in Go FAS Pole Qualifying at 2:45 pm. Local racing, including the ARCA Salenbein Excavating Late Model Sportsman division and ARCA Safety Kleen Factory Stock division season championship features are set to follow, with the ASA STARS National Tour on-track autograph session after. Driver introductions will take place at 5 pm, while the green flag will fly over the 200-lap main event at 5:30 pm ET.
