The ASA STARS National Tour is on hiatus until May 23, but the ASA Midwest Tour was in action this weekend with another Sunday Afternoon matinee in Wisconsin.
ASA Midwest Tour – Majeski Again…
The ASA Midwest Tour hosted its second event of the 2024 season, which also served as the season opener for Madison International Speedway.
Once again, 2023 ASA STARS National Tour Champion Ty Majeski dominated the Midwest Tour Series event, grabbing the lead on lap 137, and cruising to a 2.1 second win to claim his 36th career ASA Midwest Tour victory in the 17th Joe Shear Classic 200.
Majeski’s dominance on the Wisconsin Short Tracks brought about a $3,600 bounty to anyone who could beat him. No one could, and track promoter and ASA Midwest Tour series director Gregg McKarns decided that the money would be paid…regardless of who won. Therefore, Majeski took home the $15,000 winner’s share of the purse, plus the $3,600 bounty bonus, for a total payday of $18,600.
The win was Majeski’s 3rd Joe Shear Classic victory, including the 2023 version, which was co-sanctioned by the ASA STARS National Tour. Majeski also won the ASA National Tour Wisconsin races at the Milwaukee Mile and at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna, WI, sweeping the major special events in the Badger State en route to the inaugural ASA STARS National Tour Title.
2023 and Defending ASA Midwest Tour Champion Gabe Sommers finished 2nd, after leading the event during the mid-stages. Madison International Speedway regular late model racer Brent Edmonds turned in the performance of his career, finishing 3rd.
Former 3-Time ASA Midwest Tour Champion Casey Johnson placed fourth, with Justin Mondeik 5th and 15 year-old second generation racer Ty Fredrickson 6th.
