ASA Weekend Recap

The ASA Midwest Tour was back in action at Madison International Speedway, plus ASA connections found victory lane across the country.

Let’s take a look at the weekend that was.

Nason Wins ASAMT Howie Lettow Classic at Madison

Max Kahler and John DeAngelis were battling hard for the race win late, but the two would get together and drift high in three and four and Austin Nason slid underneath and stole the Howie Lettow win from both drivers.

Nason qualified outside the invert and started 13th, methodically working his way through the field. He found himself in third with eight laps to go when Kahler and DeAngelis got together, opening the door for he and Riley Stenjem to go on by. Nason then held off the former TUNDRA Super Late Model Series champion for his fifth-career ASA Midwest Tour win.
“I just couldn’t fire off on restarts, it took me about a lap or two to get going,” Nason said after the race. “They (Kahler and DeAngelis) happen to get together when I was right behind them, and it just worked out. We had a good car. We started 13th and picked our way through there.”

The ASA Midwest Tour is back in action on Saturday, September 2nd at Dells Raceway Park for the Jim Sauter Classic.

Enfinger Wins NASCAR’s Return To The Milwaukee Mile

For the first time since 2009, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series visited the Milwaukee Mile for the Clean Harbors 175. Part-time ASA competitor Grant Enfinger pulled a clean sweep of the event – starting on the pole, winning both stages and winning the race to move him into the next round of the NASCAR Truck Series Playoffs.
Carson Hocevar played the strategy game to give himself a chance at stealing the win, but Enfinger reeled in the No.42 and passed him with 16 to go to take the win. The Alabama driver has made it a habit of winning return races, also having won NASCAR’s return to Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park in 2022.

Butcher Goes Back-To-Back at Oxford

Redbud 400 winner Cole Butcher notched his second-straight Oxford 250 win on Sunday night with his family team. By doing so, he becomes just the sixth driver to win consecutive Oxford 250s’ at the Maine speed plant.

The current ASA STARS National Tour points runner-up started on the outside front row, but quickly found himself at the back of the 41-car field after contact with Jimmy Renfrew Jr. sent him to the tail on lap seven. The Canadian drove his way back through the field and passed Joey Doiron with 27 to go for the win.
