While the season passes the halfway mark, we did a deeper dive into some of the storylines and stat lines for the 2025 season. With a few weeks off until the series rolls back into Indiana, it’s a good chance to catch our breath and see what has been happening in 2025.
Dang Nice to See You Cole – While some drivers might not share the same feeling, the performance of ASA point leader Cole Butcher in the first half of the season has been nothing but impressive. With three wins in seven starts, it was more of the rebound to finish second at Madison in June and the rebound to finish sixth at Hickory in May. Those runs are helping put this championship-caliber season together. Looking ahead he is a former winner of the Redbud 400 and he isthe defending race winner at the Winchester 400.
Making Big Gains – There is nothing new with the secret, but Stephen Nasse is perfecting the art of passing cars. Nasse is a plus 82 from qualifying to race finishes this season. In each of the first seven events, Nasse has gained spots from his starting spot and has a wide margin over Derek Thorn who is second in this category.
Leading the Way – We touched on Cole Butcher leading the points earlier, but he’s also setting records in the laps-led department. Butcher has led 568 laps this season after only seven races. The record in 725 was held by Ty Majeski in 2023. Butcher could pass him and perhaps be the first driver to lead 1000 laps in a single season in the current ASA Series.
Laps to Go – The season will come down to 1600 laps over the next five races. Two events, the Winchester 400 and the Redbud 400, will feature 400 laps. Two more will have 300 like Owosso and the All American 400 weekend. The Glass City 200 will of course run the traditional distance associated with the event.
Tracks – With the race at Slinger Super Speedway (WI), the ASA STARS National Tour has now visited 15 different venues in just under three seasons. The remaining races on the 2025 calendar have hosted races in the past. The upcoming Redbud 400 will be the third time the ASA STARS Tour has been to the Anderson, Indiana track.
First Time Winners – So far we have seen four first-time winners in 2025. Gavan Bochele started us off at New Smyrna in February. From there Colby Howard won at Hickory in May, Derek Kraus won at Newport the same month. Carson Brown would win at Madison to mark three straight first-time winners before the Slinger event.
Rookie War – Only 35 points separate the top two rookies battling for the title of ASA STARS Tour Rookie of the Year. Carson Brown is second in points with Gavan Boschele sitting fourth in points. Both drivers have a win and if either wins another race then that could aid them to winning the honors of Rookie of the Year.
