A Mile-Long Test at Milwaukee – Who is the Favorite?

The ASA STARS National Tour faces a test unlike any other on Sunday, June 18 when the series heads to the Milwaukee Mile for the Father’s Day 100. The Mile is unique in that it is one of only two tracks in the country that hosts Super Late Model racing on a mile-long oval.

With The Mile’s location in the state of Wisconsin, one would say that drivers from the Upper Midwest would have the advantage come this weekend. All five drivers entered that have won at Milwaukee in the past all hail from the same three states – Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota.

Of those five drivers, Ty Majeski (2021) and Austin Nason (2019) are former Father’s Day 100 winners. Dan Fredrickson (2004) has also won at The Mile in Super Late Model competition, coming with the old Midwest All-Star Racing Series. Levon Van Der Geest (2019) and Jeff Storm (1997) have won at Milwaukee with the Midwest Truck Series and Mid-American Racing Series, respectively.

While William Sawalich competes around the country with Wilson Motorsports, he is a native of neighboring Minnesota. He nearly won last year’s Father’s Day 100, coming up just short in a photo finish with Casey Johnson.

Southeast hot shoes and ASA STARS National Tour winners Casey Roderick and Bubba Pollard both have one previous start at Milwaukee, with one much more recent than the other. Roderick finished fifth in the first Father’s Day 100 in 2019, while Pollard finished 16th in an ASA Midwest Tour race all the way back in 2012.

That leaves a list of drivers led by Hickory Motor Speedway winner Gio Ruggiero and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Carson Hocevar who will be making their first appearances at the Milwaukee Mile. Cole Butcher is also competing at Milwaukee for the first time, along with Billy VanMeter, Joseph Scholze, and Barrett Polhemus.

The ASA STARS National Tour heads to the historic Milwaukee Mile on Sunday, June 18 for the Father’s Day 100 Presented by Hunt Brothers Pizza. Tickets for the Father’s Day 100 are now on sale at the Wisconsin State Fairgrounds ticket office, or online by clicking here.

The Father’s Day 100 will be co-sanctioned with the ASA Midwest Tour, which will be the fourth race of the ASA MT season. RJ Braun, Ty Majeski, and Dalton Zehr have won races with the series this season.

The ASA STARS National Tour opened the ten race, six-state schedule at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL on March 11. Gio Ruggiero is the most recent winner, winning his first-career Super Late Model race in the Tar Heel 250 at Hickory Motor Speedway.

The ASA STARS National Tour debuted in March of 2023 for Super Late Model racing in America. Announced last October, many of the best drivers in America will compete in the ten-race national tour with a minimum $100,000 point fund. The championship team will be guaranteed $25,000.

The ASA STARS National Tour is made up of three races from each of the regional pavement Super Late Model Series under the Track Enterprises banner; the ASA CRA Super Series, the ASA Midwest Tour and the ASA Southern Super Series.

The Team Construction Winner’s Circle program has been announced as a part of the ASA STARS National Tour for licensed drivers/teams with perfect attendance. The program provides additional financial incentives to those teams who support the Series, thanks to Team Construction.

Track Enterprises, a Racing Promotions Company based in Illinois, will operate the ASA STARS National Tour. It announced the acquisition of the CRA sanctioning body in January and followed that up with the purchase of the Midwest Tour in July. In October, Track Enterprises President, Bob Sargent announced a partnership with the Southern Super Series which set the table for the formation of the ASA STARS National Tour.
