by Kari Shear-Carlson / August 16, 2015 – It was another hot summer night this past Friday and Ty Majeski may be on a hot streak of his own. He became the third winner in eight trips to Norway Speedway for the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by Scag Power Equipment and won his third ARCA Midwest Tour event of 2015. Majeski took the lead in the Duel for Diabetes 100 on lap 58 and never looked back.
“We had a great car tonight. They put a great car under me wherever we go, and work on getting me comfortable. That’s really important at a place like this,” said Majeski. He was definitely comfortable, setting the fastest lap of the day in VDL Fuel Systems qualifying and ending the night in victory lane.
James Swan and Natalie Decker set the pace, as starter Tom White waved the green flag. The two raced side-by-side for a couple laps before Decker cleared Swan on lap three to officially claim the top spot.
Mark Mackesy spun on lap four bringing out the caution and reset the field for a double-file restart. Decker chose the inside with Swan on the outside of row one. Local drivers, Dan Lindsley and Dillon Kralovetz, set up row two followed by Skylar Holzhausen and Chris Weinkauf.
Decker was able to hold the lead by a few inches, but Lindsley got around her on the outside down the backstretch and took the lead by lap five. Kralovetz also made a move to the outside and secured the second spot.
Chris Weinkauf was working on Swan to take over the fourth spot but started to drift back as Holzhausen moved to the inside and overtook fifth. Fast qualifier, Ty Majeski, started in the ninth position and was methodically moving up through the field.
As Lindsley and Kralovetz set the pace up front, the rest of the field had settled in for a few laps. Natalie Decker and Swan continued to hold onto third and fourth with Holzhausen and Claire Decker running behind them.
As Lindsley and Kralovetz came up on lapped traffic, Lindsley was able to stretch out his lead even further. Swan decided to make a move to get back around Natalie Decker but the two made contact causing some damage to his right front and he fell back to eighth.
Holzhausen had now moved into third. Majeski cleared Claire Decker for fifth and a few laps later took the fourth spot away from Natalie. He now had his sights set on Holzhausen who had quickly caught Kralovetz. Lindsley continued to lead as Holzhausen made his way around Kralovetz for second.
Majeski continued to come on strong closing in on and eventually getting around Kralovetz and closing in on Holzhausen. As Lindsley’s lead started shrinking, Majeski was on the rear bumper of Holzhausen. On lap 54 he powered by on the outside for second.
Four laps later, Majeski stole the lead from Lindsley and immediately began to pull away. Lindsley now had Holzhausen to contend with as the two battled for the second spot. As they came up on lapped traffic, Holzhausen dove under a lapped car and Lindsley went to the high side. When they went through turn two, Holzhausen cleared both the lapped car and Lindsley and now had his eyes set on Majeski.
Robbie Iverson came to a stop on lap 69 and brought out another caution. The double-file restart allowed Holzhausen to start on the outside of Majeski. The two were followed by Lindsley and Natalie Decker. Claire Decker and Kralovetz set up the third row.
Lindsley got sideways in turn two allowing Natalie to close in and move into third on lap 77. Majeski and Holzhausen pulled away from the field. Majeski held about a six car length lead over Holzhausen.
In the final laps, Jason Weinkauf made a charge getting around Claire Decker for fifth. As they came out of turn four for the checkered flag, he got around Lindsley for the fourth spot.
Majeski won his third ARCA Midwest Tour feature event of the year. Skylar Holzhausen came home a strong second. Natalie Decker became the first female in ARCAMT history to finish on the podium, in third.
