Thunderstruck 93 Cancelled Due to Abysmal Forecast

(Elko, MN) The “Thunderstruck 93”, set for Saturday, September 23 at Elko Speedway has been canceled due to an abysmal forecast throughout the day and evening. The event was set to feature the ASA Midwest Tour’s return to the track in addition to five of the local divisions.

Race officials were hopeful that the weather forecast would get better as the week progressed but that was not the case with chances for rain showing now 70% during the day and 100% during the evening. The early cancellation was made to save teams and fans the unneeded travel to the event.

The excitement level was high for the return of Super Late Models to the 3/8-mile oval for the first time since 2017. The race was set to honor Elko Speedway Hall of Famer “Thunder” Dan Ryan, Sr., who passed away in 2009 after a three-year battle with ALS. The name of the event was named after Ryan’s favorite song, “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC.

With high levels of excitement and a strong list of Super Late Models scheduled to attend, fans can expect to see the ASA Midwest Tour return to the speedway within the next year.

The next race for Elko Speedway will be their 2023 Season Championship night on Saturday, September 30th. The next race for the ASA Midwest Tour will be the Oktoberfest 200 Championship on Sunday October 8th at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, WI.
