Star Studded Field Set for Saturday’s Sauter Classic at Dells

Wisconsin Dells, WI- The ‘Stars and Cars’ of the ASA Midwest Tour Super Late Models have their sights set on Dells Raceway Park for this Saturday Night’s (August 31, 2024) Jim Sauter Classic 200 presented by Don’s Auto and Habelman Brothers. The $10,005 to win, 200-lap feature event will be up for grabs as Champions and Challengers are set to chase the big payday and prestigious Sauter Classic trophy from Wehrs Machine.

A quick overview of some of the pre-race favorites:

4 Fenhaus- The two-time Alive for 5 Champion finished second in last year’s Jim Sauter Classic and won his most recent start at DRP earlier this month.

7 DeAngelis, Jr- A fourth place effort in last year’s Sauter event has this former Alive for 5 winner on the radar of many heading into Saturday night.

9 Kraus- Returning to the spot of his Midwest Tour victory, making him the youngest winner is series history, the part-time NASCAR Cup Series driver nearly captured the win at WIR earlier this month.

14 Nason- Fresh off back to back runner-up finishes at Anderson (IN) and Owosso (MI) in ASA National competition, this five-time Midwest Tour winner looks to improve upon last year’s second place Sauter finish.

15 Sommers- The current ASA Midwest Tour point leader and defending Champion has won twice this season at DRP, won this event two years ago and found victory lane two weeks ago at Hawkeye Downs.

17 Kahler- A third place Sauter Classic a season ago has the 2023 UMA Super Late Model Champion amongst the favorites Saturday night. The former Big 8 Series Champion is a former National Short Track Championship winner.

23 VanDerGeest- With multiple Super Late Model wins this season, this second generation driver is seeking his first tour win. He finds himself second in the Midwest Tour points and has been so ever close to his break-through win.

36 Fredrickson- This youngster finds himself locked into a three-way Rookie points battle with former Truck standouts Joe Valento and James Lynch. He started the season by capturing the DRP Icebreaker in April.

39 Morrissey- One of the most followed drivers this summer, he is always in the mix at the Dells and is a past Icebreaker winner. The former Midwest Tour Champion finished second in his most recent Tour start, earlier this month at WIR.

44 Mondeik- Having recently captured his second Detjens Memorial 125 victory at State Park Speedway, he is looking to improve upon his current fourth place point position. This Central Wisconsin pilot has titles at State Park, Golden Sands and Norway, MI.

77 Stenjem- Part of the Red, White and Blue State Championship winning effort this season at WIR, the 2021 TUNDRA Series Champ heads to Dells on Saturday hoping to carry that momentum through the final three Midwest Tour contests.

80 Farrell- A multiple Alive for 5 winner including last October, the 2018 Wisconsin Challenge Series Champion returns to Midwest Tour action at what is arguably is strongest track.

91 Swanson- Last year saw this young Minnesota driver cross the finish line fifth after 200 laps. The former Dells Legends Champion looks to better that effort in Saturday’s Sauter Classic.

91 Majeski- The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Playoff contender is the defending Sauter Classic 200 winner. With five Midwest Tour Championships, the all-time series feature winner (38) is currently third in the point standings.

About Jim Sauter: Jim Sauter won back-to-back ARTGO Challenge Series Championships in 1981 and 1982. Over the course of his career he recorded twenty ARTGO feature wins and seven ASA National Series wins before heading south where he made seventy-six NASCAR Winston Cup Series starts, recording four top-tens in the process. Over the course of his career, he won some of the biggest short track races of the day including the North Star 500 at the Minnesota State Fair, Rockford’s National Short Track Championship and the All-American 400 at Nashville Fairgrounds.
