West Salem, WI – 15-year-old Penn Sauter, son of 2016 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Johnny Sauter, beat out current Truck champion Ty Majeski for the Faster than a Speeding Bullet award for Sunday’s Oktoberfest 200 at the 56th Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend in West Salem, WI.
Sauter beat Majeski by 0.020 seconds for the fast time award, his first in the ASA Midwest Tour. Sauter then rolled a three to create a 12-car invert for tomorrow’s championship event.
Sauter has taken the “Ultimate Challenge” for Sunday’s race. He will start at the rear of the field and if he wins, will collect the bonus. At press time, the bonus was over $36,000!!!
Current ASAMT point leader Gabe Sommers qualified third to gain a one point on Casey Johnson after qualifying, giving him a four-point lead heading into the odd/even heats on Saturday night.
The top 16 competed in odd/even heats for points on Saturday night.
In the odd heat, Michael Hinde picked up the victory with Andrew Morrissey in second. Sommers finished third.
Joseph Scholze won the even heat over Levon Van Der Geest while Johnson finished third.
With Sommers and Johnson receiving the same points in their heats, Sommers will go into Sunday’s 200-lap main event with a four-point lead.
Jared DeBoer and Jacob Goede picked up qualifier heat victories.
The racing action will get underway at noon tomorrow with the Oktoberfest 200 as the finale to the four days of Oktoberfest Race Weekend.
