Kaukauna, WI – Four past winners of the Gandrud Auto Group 250 have already filed an entry for the Appalachian Sucker Punch ASA Midwest Tour presented by Five Star Race Car Bodies event coming up on Tuesday, August 4th at Wisconsin International Raceway.
The long-standing traditional event held on the first Tuesday in August since 1981 has become one of the crown jewel super late model events in the Midwest. This year’s event will pay $15,000 to the winner with $1,500 to start.
Defending winner Luke Fenhaus, five-time winner Ty Majeski, 2021 winner Paul Shafer Jr., and 2017 winner Casey Johnson have already filed an entry to the Tuesday, August 4th event.
Two-time Midwest Tour champion Gabe Sommers will be looking for his first victory in the Midwest Tour this season after winning an Alive for Five event at Dells Raceway Park. Along with former Midwest Tour champion, two-time Joe Shear Classic and Oktoberfest 200 winner Andrew Morrissey.
Recent Howie Lettow Classic 100 winner Ty Fredrickson along with second-place finisher Justin Mondeik and third-place Austin Nason hope to continue their strong runs from one half-mile oval to the unique D-shaved oval. Penn Sauter hopes to start the process of getting his first Gandrud 250 victory and catch up to his father Johnny Sauter who has two victories.
Some of the familiar WIR competitors have also filed entries. Recent WIR White race and Norway 100 winner Dalton Zehr, former Red, White, and Blue and former TUNDRA champion Riley Stenjem, former track champions Cody Vanderloop, Sawyer Effertz, Jeff VanOudenHoven, Pete Vandermolen, and Trevor Vandermolen are preparing to take on the stars and cars of the Midwest Tour.
Levon Van Der Geest, who came so close to a Gandrud Auto Group 250 victory two years ago, is hoping to finish the deal this year. Nick Egan, Joseph Scholze, and Mitch Haver are looking for an upset win at WIR. Another frontrunner that has come close to winning the Gandrud Auto Group 250 is former Icebreaker 100 winner John DeAngelis.
More entries are expected according to the promoter and series officials.
Tickets for the Gandrud Auto Group 250 are on sale now, and fans are encouraged to purchase in advance to save and skip the lines on race day. Advance general admission tickets are $25, while tickets at the gate on race day will be $30. Kids 12 and under are admitted FREE with a paid adult.
Joining the Appalachian Sucker Punch ASA Midwest Tour presented by Five Star Bodies on Tuesday night will be the Midwest Truck Series for the Dixieland Delight 35, making for a full evening of exciting racing action.
Grandstand gates open at 4:00 p.m., with racing beginning at 6:30 p.m.
