Schereville, IN- A brand new format will feature triple fifty lap feature events when the ARCA Midwest Tour and ARCA/CRA Super Series embark on Illiana Motor Speedway for the Calypso Lemonade Chicagoland Showdown, Memorial Day Monday afternoon May 25. Both popular Midwest based Super Late Model Series will contest a point event, fifty laps in length which will include the top regional drivers as well as the area’s best competitors. The top twelve from each feature along with various provisional starters from series and track point standings will fill the thirty car finale field which pays $600 to start and will award $5,000 and a replica Tommy Gun to the final fifty lap winner.
“With three features showcasing the top two Super Late Model tours in the land as well as the talent of the Chicagoland racing scene going head to head, I am beyond excited about this event.” Stated Chicagoland Showdown Promoter Gregg McKarns. “This promises to be an exciting format for the fans and drivers alike, with big money and prizes on the line. With just fifty laps to get to the front in each feature, every lap is going to be intense.”
Last season saw eventual ARCA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Champion and Rookie of the Year Ty Majeski hold off a determined Eddie Hoffman of ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS and Chicagoland fame, to lay claim to the annual ‘Border Wars’ event. Local Illiana standout Anthony Danta finished fifth behind Minnesota’s Jonathan Eilen and Wisconsin’s Nathan Haseleu.
While the point features for each series will have the line-up determined by their respective series protocol, the finale will see the top four transfers from each feature redraw to set the first four rows. The order of features will be determined by the fastest qualifier and will seed the local drivers into each feature based on their qualifying efforts. Miller Electric has donated $500 vouchers to the top finisher from each series as well as the event fast qualifier. The popular Mid-American Stock Car Series will also join the card, making for an action packed Memorial Day afternoon of racing.
