by Kari Shear-Carlson / August 13, 2016 – Ty Majeski paced himself to yet another victory in the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by Scag Power Equipment tonight in the Mid-Summer Showdown at Marshfield Motor Speedway. Majeski started in eighth and took the lead from Cardell Potter half-way into the event. He held off a few charges from Chris Weinkauf but eventually went on to an impressive fifth victory so far this season in the ARCA Midwest Tour.

Casey Johnson and Nick Barstad set up the front row for the start of the 100 lap event. Barstad took the lead and Dalton Zehr moved into second. Zehr quickly took the lead as Cardell Potter and Skylar Holzhausen fell in behind. Skylar Holzhausen also joined the group to dice it up in the front of the field.

As the top five were vying for the top spot, Majeski was smoothly making his way to the front bringing fast qualifier, Chris Weinkauf with him. On lap 75, after a few lead changes, Majeski and Weinkauf found themselves fighting for second as Cardell Potter led. Majeski and Weinkauf tapped a little as they raced side-by-side but Majeski was able to hold onto second. Weinkauf remained within a couple car lengths in third.

The first caution came out on lap 39 when the 42 of Brian Hakala spun on his own in turn four. This allowed Majeski, Weinkauf, Holzhausen and Zehr to line up side by side with Potter. Majeski took to the outside of Potter on the restart followed by Weinkauf and Holzhausen.

Majeski got a bit of a jump when the green flag waved, but starter Tom White disapproved, so they had to try it again. This time Potter held his lead as Majeski hung on the top side. The two were side-by-side and Majeski was able to lead the next lap by a nose. They were still side by side the next lap and this time Potter slipped back into the lead coming out of four. Meanwhile, behind them, Weinkauf and Holzhausen were also side by side.

Majeski was finally able to move to the bottom side of Potter and they were once again side by side. Majeski finally sealed the top spot with about 54 to go. Weinkauf made his move around the outside of Potter as well sneaking into the second spot.

The second caution of the night came out when Jeff Holtz stalled in turn four. Majeski and Weinkauf lined up side by side to lead the field back to green. Potter and Holzhausen set up row two. Majeski and Weinkauf were inches apart but Majeski slipped back into the lead. Holzhausen got around Potter for third and eventually Weinkauf for second.

The field spread out for the final 40 laps. Just as it appeared Holzhausen was catching Majeski, Majeski would inch a little further away.

With 25 laps to go, Weinkauf started closing back in on the 78 of Holzhausen. The battle for second was fading in Majeski’s rearview mirror as he continued to pull away. Weinkauf moved back into second around Holzhausen.

Dalton Zehr got around Potter for fourth as the laps started winding down. Weinkauf pulled away from Holzhausen but didn’t have enough to catch the dominant effort put forth by Majeski.

Dalton Zehr caught Holzhausen for third and made the pass with 10 to go. Colin Reffer moved into fifth but Potter wasn’t going to let him get by that easy. Barstad wanted the spot as well They went three wide. The three fought for the three positions and also caught Holzhausen to fight for fourth. When they crossed the finish line they were side by side and nose to tail.

Majeski received the checkered flag for the fifth time this season in the ARCAMT. Weinkauf, Zehr, Potter, and Barstad rounded out the top five.
