Just Entered, Sauter Looks to Double Up on Weekend and in Shear Classic

Full Entry List

Wisconsin Dells, WI- Labor Day Weekend has become quite busy for Johnny Sauter. Sauter, the 2016 NASCAR Truck Champion and 2001 American Speed Association (ASA) National Champion is still a threat each time he pulls into a Wisconsin Short Track. He plans to challenge for the win in Saturday night’s (September 5) Joe Shear Classic 200 at Dells Raceway Park before competing in the NASCAR Truck Series event at Darlington the following day. Having won the Joe Shear Classic in 2015, Sauter is amongst the favorites of the 33 ARCA Midwest Tour Super Late Models currently entered for this weekend’s event, attempting to join Andrew Morrissey as the only two-time winner of the event named after the Midwest racing legend.

His last ARCA Midwest Tour victory came on Labor Day Weekend of 2018, at Dells Raceway Park in what has traditionally been the Escape to Wisconsin 100 for the touring Super Late Model series. With schedules impacted in 2020, the decision was made to move the Joe Shear Classic from its traditional first Sunday in May at Madison International Speedway to Labor Day Weekend at Dells Raceway Park. The 25 car field, which pays $1,000 to start and $10,000 to win marks the highest paying Midwest Tour event ever held at the Dells. Sauter nearly found a $10,000 payday last month following the Gandrud Auto Group 250 at Wisconsin International Raceway. Many believe had it not been for a late race restart mishap which forced his self-prepared Super Late Model into the high line, that Sauter would have cruised to victory.

Joining the Midwest Tour will be the Midwest Trucks and 602 Late Models. Spectator events will open at 3pm for the Holiday weekend special event, with qualifying at 4:30 and racing at 6pm Saturday night September 5. Adult general admission tickets are $25, Seniors (65 and over) and Students (ages 13-17) are $22 with kids ages 12 and under admitted free. General admission tickets can be purchased in advance at:
