Historic Wayne Carter Classic Next Up For The ARCA Midwest Tour

NASCAR Star Rusty Wallace To Join The Tour At Grundy County Speedway

by Kari Shear-Carlson
One week ago today, the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by Lester Buildings and Scag Power Equipment was at the Milwaukee Mile for one of the most prestigious events of the year. This Friday the Tour is making the trip south of the border to Grundy County Speedway in Morris, IL for the historic Wayne Carter Classic Calypso Lemonade100.

NASCAR Hall of Fame Inductee, Rusty Wallace will be an honorary guest this Friday night. 300 lucky fans will be a part of a meet and greet including autographs with Rusty Wallace. Tickets go on sale at 3:30pm Friday and all tickets are first come, first serve. Tickets will be in no particular order and fans will be randomly notified of their winning ticket and the opportunity to meet Rusty.

Wallace won the ARTGO Fall Nationals over Frank Gawlinski and Tracy Schuler in 1983 and is looking forward to coming back. “If I remember correctly, there was a cornfield in Morris, IL and a race track just popped up,” joked Wallace. “I am really looking forward to going back there. That style of racing is where I cut my teeth and some of the same guys I raced against are still hanging out there.”

Last year after a fierce battle with DOC 360 Touring Star Chris Wimmer and i-gogs Sunglasses Touring Star Jonathan Eilen, local driver Eddie Hoffman added his name to the list of winners in one of the most exciting events of the season.

i-gogs Sunglasses Touring Star Dan Fredrickson will be looking for win number three of the season and try to stretch his 38 point lead over Wimmer. Vita Ice Touring Star, Skylar Holzhausen had a great run going last year, but after a hard hit into the turn three wall he wasn’t able to capitalize. He is currently third in points only 71 behind Fredrickson.

This year Steve Wallace will also be joining the field of drivers. Wallace is coming off a 19th place finish after starting 43rd in the Howie Lettow Memorial 150 at the Milwaukee Mile. Wallace is excited to be racing in the ARCA Midwest Tour again Friday night.

“Man, I love racing with these guys. There are so many tough competitors, it makes for some fun racing! Steve (Einhaus) and Tim (Olson) are so great to work with and I was really pumped when they asked me to race there (Grundy). My dad raced here back in the 80’s and it was good, hard racing back then. From what I’ve heard that hasn’t changed.”

The Wayne Carter Classic has a deep-rooted history. Art Frigo started the ARTGO series in 1975. The very first ARTGO event was held at Grundy County Speedway won by Wisconsin Rapids, WI driver Tom Reffner. As the year’s went on, the late John McKarn’s took over the ARTGO series and carried on the tradition. Past winners include the likes of greats like Larry Phillips, Dick Trickle, Joe Shear, Larry Schuler, Steve Carlson and many more.

Qualifying will begin at 5:00pm with an Autograph Session to follow at 6:00pm and opening ceremonies at 6:50pm. The first green flag will fly at 7:00pm.

Ticket prices are $20 for adults 12 and older. 11 and under are FREE!

The ARCA Midwest Tour will be joined by the Midwest Scag Truck Tour and the local street stocks.

Calypso is now available at ALL MENARDS as part of a new joint venture with Menards and King Juice Company, parent company of Calypso Lemonade.
