ASAMT Announces Largest Touring Stars Bonus Program Yet

Tour Reformats Touring Stars Bonus Payout

By Kari Shear-Carlson
March 16, 2012 – Everyone knows that racing is an expensive sport whether you are racing your local short track or traveling a circuit. It is no different for the teams in the American Speed Association® Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment and Lester Buildings.

In 2012, the ASAMT is excited to give back to the teams through a newly formatted Touring Stars bonus program. As an organization, the ASA Midwest Tour has increased the travel budget through the Touring Stars program to a payout of $5250 per event based on a 32 car entry list.

“Its hard these days to ask tracks to raise their purse so we as a series are investing in our racers and dedicating $5250 a race back into the bonus program to help the teams,” said ASAMT VP Steve Einhaus.

The original Touring Stars program provided a flat rate of $200 bonuses per event for the top 14 in points from the previous season along with eligible Rookies of the Year. The 2012 season has eleven contracted Tour Stars leaving three open positions for new competitors and one open position for a registered Rookie of the Year to capitalize on the new bonus program.

Due to the open positions, drivers, including registered rookies, not locked into the 2012 Touring Stars program can race into the open positions at each event. The driver highest in points after the first event will be eligible for the bonus at the second event and so on.

The 2012 contracted Touring Stars eligible for the bonus program include, Andrew Morrissey, Jacob Goede, Nathan Haseleu, Tim Schendel, Chris Wimmer, Jonathan Eilen, Chris Weinkauf, Skylar Holzhausen, Nick Panitzke, Jeff Storm, and Nick Murgic.

Touring Stars and one registered Rookie of the Year will be paid based on his or her position against one another. The highest finishing Touring Star gets a $1000 bonus and the continued payout is as follows:

1st $1000
2nd $500
3rd $450
4th $400
5th $375
6th $350
7th $325
8th $300
9th $275
10th $250
11th $225
12th $200
13th $200
14th $200
15th $200
Total $5250
