Memorial Day Weekend is a weekend where we salute those who have scarified their lives for the freedom we have in this country. It is also a big weekend for auto racing and the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment will do their part by visiting one of the more historic short tracks in Wisconsin.
Jefferson Speedway, located between Cambridge and Jefferson, Wisconsin, opened in 1952 and “Wisconsin’s Action Track” has been a regular place for fans and competitors to congregate every Saturday night.
It has also been the track where many drivers first cut their teeth behind the wheel. Matt Kenseth’s dad bought a car from this track and started the soon to be the Hall of Fame career for his son. 2007 ARCAMT Champion Nathan Haseleu started his racing career racing hobby stocks then moving up to Late Models. Even today’s current Touring Stars Rich Bickle Jr. and Casey Johnson made their debut at this famous quarter-mile oval.
This Saturday night, the ARCA Midwest Tour will return to Jefferson Speedway for a 100-lap main event. The unique design of the track will challenge the veterans and the young stars that whoever wins, will have earned it.
Casey Johnson, fresh off his second-place finish in the Cabin Fever 100, has won multiple championship at Jefferson. One can guarantee that this event has been on his mind, since the 2018 schedule was released over the winter.
Andrew Morrissey will be looking for his second victory in a row after his win at State Park Speedway in Wausau, Wisconsin.
Dalton Zehr will be looking for his first win in 2018 along with Dan Fredrickson, Jonathan Eilen, and Ricky Baker.
Joe Shear Classic winner Austin Nason will lead a group of young guns looking to get an ARCAMT victory on Saturday night. Paul Shafer Jr., Michael Ostdiek, Justin Mondiek, Dillon Hammond, Jon DeAngelis Jr., Ryan Farrell and Jeff Holmgren Jr. hope to join Nason in getting their first ARCAMT victory in 2018.
The rookies will also hope challenge for the checkered flag. John Beale, Billy Mohn, and Derek Doerr hope to make a name for themselves on Saturday night.
Or could Dave Tomczak or Mikie Breiner put their name in the headlines? Will Bickle take the young drivers to school and show them how it’s done?
Only way to find out is get them on “Wisconsin’s Action Track” and battle it out for 100 laps and see who will raise their arms in victory lane.
Qualifying will get underway at 5pm with racing starting at 7pm. The Midwest Compacts and Hobby Stocks will also be in action. Make sure to get there early and meet the stars for an autograph session after qualifying and before the racing action gets underway.
