#01 West Virginia University Entry to Lead CRA Contingent into Wisconsin
Wheeling, West Virginia (Friday, August 9, 2013): Border Wars Part II on Sunday, August 11th at Madison International Speedway in Oregon, Wisconsin is the second of two combination races pitting the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS against the teams from the ARCA Midwest Tour. In the first combo race back in April at Toledo Speedway in Toledo, Ohio, CRA scored the victory when Three-Time & Reigning Series Champion, Johnny VanDoorn won the race.
As the 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval located south of Wisconsin’s capital city awaits the expected stellar field of cars, Current ARCA/CRA Super Series Points Leader, Travis Braden will have the proverbial target on his back and is the first CRA representative the Midwest Tour competitors will be looking at as the top threat to take home the trophy and complete a CRA sweep of Border Wars. Added pressure that Braden is ok with.
“Our hopes are pretty high after the big success we’ve had so far this season. No one on this team has ever been to the track so it will be a hit or miss kind of deal most likely.” The Wheeling, West Virginia driver stated. “Hopefully, the car will be great and we can challenge the locals and bring home the Border Wars trophy back home with CRA. The Toledo race was a pretty awesome show and I wouldn’t expect any less out of this race.” He added.
In Braden’s last race, the Tri-State Collector Car Appraising 125 Presented by T.A.A.G. Incorporated at Berlin Raceway, located west of Grand Rapids in Marne, Michigan on August 3rd, Braden had high hopes heading back to West Michigan as the 19-year-old visited victory lane this season in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance portion of the Inaugural Battle at Berlin 251 Weekend.
After Qualifying second quick over the 23-car field, the inversion draw placed Braden’s #01 West Virginia University / Chevrolet on the inside of the third row for the main. He quickly worked his way up to second and was able to snatch the lead away from pole-sitter, Dave Lake, a weekly competitor at the track on lap 15 and he paced the field for the next 51 laps before hometown favorite, Brian Campbell took over the lead for good and went on to win. Braden finished second after fighting off hard-chargers, Tom Thomas and VanDoorn to secure the runner-up spot.
“Berlin was about as good of a day you can have without winning. We knew we should have a strong car and it really showed in qualifying and the early part of the race.” The Mountaineer State driver continued. “We had the car just a tick too tight for the feature and when I tried to push the car harder there just wasn’t enough there to gain any time. One chassis adjustment would have probably went a long way. Nonetheless it was a great points day. We’ll take it and roll on.” He ended.
