Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models Back in Action at the Indianapolis Speedrome Saturday

Salem, Indiana (July 7, 2020): The Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models will continue their 2020 season with their second event of the season this Saturday at the Indianapolis Speedrome, located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The COVID-19 pandemic caused several Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models events to be postponed or cancelled, CRA officials continue to work with track promoters in trying to reschedule some of those events. 

The Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models was a new racing series in 2019 to focus on a youth movement for short track stock car racing that saw 10 to 15-year-old drivers compete amongst themselves for both experience and recognition in full size late models with an economical drive train and suspension alternatives. Chase Burda was the inaugural series Champion in 2019, he has now moved up to compete with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour in 2020. Burda won the series event held the Indianapolis Speedrome in 2019. 

Some of the key components for the rule package for the Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models will be the mandated use of the $3900 factory sealed Chevrolet Performance 602 crate engine. Teams will also be utilizing less expensive rear ends, transmissions and springs and spec KONI Shocks. The series will also be racing on 8-inch steel wheels and utilizing 8-inch Hoosier Racing tires. The series will compete on 3/8 mile and under racetracks with most events consisting of 8 lap heat races and a 25-lap feature.

14-year-old VanDoorn Racing Development Registered Rookie Jordon Riddick make an outside pass on 12-year-old Zack Wilhelm to grab the lead on lap six and eventually the win in the series season opener at Anderson Speedway on June 13th. It was Riddick’s first ever late model race. Wilhelm would finish in second with 13-year-old Katie Hettinger finishing in third. 

14-year-old Mason Surgener and Wilhelm were the heat race winners on June 13th. Hettinger claimed her first MPM Marketing Fast Qualifier Award in setting a new track record at Anderson. 

Riddick comes into Saturday’s event as the series points leader. Wilhelm is in second, three points behind Riddick. Hettinger is in third place, three points behind Wilhelm. 14-year-old Evan Varney is in fourth place, he is two points behind Hettinger. 11-year-old series rookie Carson Lucas is in fifth place, he is two points behind Varney. 

There is an open practice on Friday, July 10th during the tracks Friday night race program, pits open at 5pm, open practice begins at 6pm. Pits open on Saturday at 2:30 pm. Practice will begin at 4pm. MPM Marketing Qualifying will begin at 6pm for the Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models. Racing action will begin at 7pm and will include 8 lap heat races and a 25-lap feature event for the Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models. Also racing that night will be the Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks in the 150 Four Crown event plus Speedrome divisions Factory FWD’s, Ford Oval’s and Powder Puff FWD.
