Haseleu Holds on to Point Lead Over Majeski

by Kari Shear-Carlson
June 28th, 2014 – Travis Sauter wins his first ARCA Midwest Tour presented by Scag Power Equipment event of the 2014 season taking home the Lester Buildings 100 at Dells Raceway Park in Wisconsin Dells, WI tonight.

“He had a pretty good car on the restarts. Luckily I was able to get by him (Chris Wimmer) without having to use up my car. I’ll be proud to give this trophy to my new baby girl born this week,” said a happy Sauter from victory lane.

Chris Wimmer led the field to green as he was able to jump ahead of Skylar Holzhausen who started on the outside of the front row. Holzhausen brought Morrissey with him as he jumped into third. Cars got bunched up a bit and some started checking up leading to the first caution of the night as the 75 of Joel Theisen went for a spin with only one lap complete.

With the lane choice Chris Wimmer chose the inside lane followed by Andrew Morrissey and Travis Sauter. Skylar Holzhausen, Jonathan Eilen and Chris Weinkauf set up the outside.

Wimmer once again had the advantage, Morrissey fell into second as Holzhausen held onto third. Nathan Haseleu was trying to stay ahead of the 91 of Ty Majeski as the two entered the night with only 15 points between them.

Sauter started to put pressure on Jonathan Eilen. The two got a little physical, but Eilen was able to hold onto it as Sauter was almost in the grass. This allowed Haseleu and Majeski to close in. Wimmer and Morrissey set a comfortable pace as the rest were sorting things out.

The biggest battle was still between Eilen and Sauter. Eilen was holding his line as Sauter tried the bump and run, but Eilen remained steady. Eilen caught up to Holzhausen for third but continued to have Sauter all over his back bumper.

By lap 25, Wimmer was closing in on lapped traffic but continued to log laps as they all worked their way through traffic.

Eilen could not shake Sauter. Sauter finally made the move on the inside and took over the spot on the backstretch. He now set his sights on Holzhausen. Haseleu was now all over the bumper of the 77 followed by 91.

Sauter made a quick move around Holzhausen into third.

On lap 34 Tim Sauter was off the pace and headed into the pit area bringing out another caution. He was not counted out at the end of the race, receiving the lucky dog and finishing on the lead lap in fifth.

Lane choice set up the restart. Wimmer once again chose the inside followed by Morrissey. This allowed Satuer to restart on the outside of Wimmer. He didn’t have quite enough slipping into second head of Morrissey.

As Sauter and Wimmer were battling it out, Ty Majeski was making the outside groove work for him moving into fourth and making Morrissey work to keep his third spot.

A spin by Bobby Kendall in turn four brought out another caution on lap 40. This time Wimmer, Morrissey and Eilen set up the inside of the first three rows. Sauter, Majeski and Holzhausen were on the outside. Wimmer got away again as Sauter slipped back into second. Majeski moved into third outside of Morrissey.

Another caution two laps later came out for a spin in turn four. There was no restart as Kendall and Travis Volm got together in turn 3 bringing out the yellow setting it up for a complete restart.

On the restart Majeski was able to get to the inside of Sauter. They were side by side, with Sauter looking really strong. He got the run and was back in second as Wimmer was able to put some ground between them. But it didn’t take long for Sauter to reel him back in.

At the half-way point Sauter was all over the bumper of Wimmer and the two had pulled away from Majeski. Wimmer appeared to be having a little trouble so he let Sauter take the lead, but later closed back in. Unfortunately Wimmer’s night was cut short with 25 laps to go as he pulled into the pits.

This put Majeski into second as Eilen had moved up to third. Sauter had stretched his lead out to a full straightaway as they crossed the finish line. Majeski and Eilen each had consecutive podium finishes as Nathan Haseleu and Tim Sauter rounded out the top five.

Majeski’s strategy didn’t play out quite right, but he was satisfied with his second place showing.

“The car was great tonight. Second place isn’t too bad. We’ll just keep stabbing away at it and hopefully get some more wins. I figured there’d be more cautions. That hurt me a little bit,” said Majeski.
