Sep 30, 2014 – We hit the top five in ARCA Midwest Tour presented by Scag Power Equipment points in our Touring Stars Tune-up and check in with Cardell Potter.
The Howie Lettow Memorial race at the Milwaukee Mile highlights Potters 2014 season. He brought home a top-ten finish in a field littered with top name drivers, and was the highest finishing Touring Star of the day. “The top-ten finish at the Milwaukee Mile was definitely our best moment of the year,” said Cardell Potter, “To have a strong run, especially when there were guys like Johnny Sauter and John Hunter Nemecheck there in addition to the tough competition that there already is on the Tour felt awesome.”
Potter then went on a streak, where in three straight races he finished seventh, sixth and fifth respectively at Hawkeye Downs Speedway, Norway Speedway and Wisconsin International Speedway. “A good run at the Mile helped build confidence,” said Potter, “And then those were longer races with no breaks ad only one or two yellow flags, which seemed to help. Our car has been working better on the long runs this year.”
Potter and the entire cast of the ARCA Midwest Tour will end the season with another long race at La Crosse Speedway. For the first time in years the Oktoberfest finale will be 200-laps instead of the typical 100-laps. The last two years Oktoberfest has not been kind to Potter; last year he was forced to race a back-up car that he barely had any laps in, but if his success on the long run continues, he might just be able to turn that around. “I think we will need to qualify good and be smart about our pit strategies,” said Potter, “But I’m excited to do something different at Fest, it will be interesting.”
