Sept 8, 2014 – For the second stop of our Touring Stars Tune-Up we check in with 2012 ARCA Midwest Tour presented by Scag Power Equipment Champion Andrew Morrissey. Morrissey raced in six of the ten events so far in the 2014 season and while his goal was to race the entire year, he was forced to miss some races. “Due to a lack of sponsorship and funding I wasn’t able to make the whole year happen,” said Andrew Morrissey, “I plan to race at Elko and La Crosse, so I had to sacrifice some races in the middle. It was really disappointing to not be able to race as much as I would like”
In his six starts so far this year Morrissey picked up three top ten finishes and sits tenth in Midwest Tour point standings. “I haven’t had a great year in my eyes,” said Morrissey, “I think my best moment of the year is still to come.”
And that moment could just come at Elko Speedway where Morrissey looks to defend his Thunderstruck 93 win from a year ago. “It gives me extra confidence knowing I won that race last year, but it also adds pressure wanting to win again,” said Morrissey.
With hopes of going back to back at Elko and finishing strong at Oktoberfest, Morrissey plans to to make sure he’s ready for the final races of the year. “I plan to do some testing for Elko and La Crosse,” said Morrissey, “And I also will race the Dick Trickle 99 down at Oktoberfest prior to the Oktoberfest 200 on Sunday.”
As always, he will face tough competition as he gets back on track in the closing events of the 2014 season, but that’s something that fuels the driver of the 39 machine. “My favorite thing about the Midwest Tour is the high level of competition,” said Morrissey, “It seems like any race you go to there are 10 guys who could win it.”
