With a $1,000 bounty on Ty Majeski this Saturday night, many of the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment Touring Stars will be coming into Grundy County Speedway with momentum to end the three-time champion’s five-race win streak.
Paul Shafer Jr., who came up a few laps short of ending Majeski’s streak at Gateway Motorsports Park, won his first feature in three years, two weeks ago at the Morris, Illinois track by a bumper over Anthony Danta. He is currently fourth in the ARCAMT point standings after finishing second in the series last year.
Like a shark that can smell the blood in the water, Austin Nason is ready is ready to strike this Saturday night. Especially, after he got passed by Majeski in the final laps at the last ARCAMT event at Rockford Speedway. Nason won’t be looking to even the score as he noted on Facebook, but simply finish one position higher and hope that a $1,000 bonus eases the pain from the All-Star 100 runner-up finish.
Rich Bickle Jr. reminded everyone in the short track world that he isn’t done yet after winning Round Two of the Triple Crown Series this past Friday night at Madison International Speedway. Bickle held off two-time ARCAMT Champion Dan Fredrickson for his first win since 2013. Bickle would like to add his name to the list of Wayne Carter Classic winners.
Dennis Prunty is also fresh off a feature win this past Sunday night at Slinger Super Speedway. When it comes to big short track events, never count out Prunty. He is a Slinger Nationals champion and will be defending his Dixieland 250 win on Tuesday, August 1 at Wisconsin International Raceway.
Dalton Zehr traveled up the U.P. of Michigan last Friday night to get the feature win at Norway Speedway. Earlier last week, he picked up the Yellow River Racing Series victory at Marshfield Motor Speedway. He has been consistently strong this season in the ARCAMT, and he could breakthrough this Saturday night.
Travis Dassow continues to build momentum during the 2017 season coming off another strong top-ten finish at Rockford Speedway. The former ASA Late Model champion is currently sitting third in the ARCAMT point standings.
Let’s not count out our rookie contenders and Kulwicki Driver Development Program drivers Michael Ostdiek and Justin Mondeik. Both drivers have a lot of experience on tracks that have a similar design and size like what Grundy County Speedway has to offer this Saturday night. Ostdiek has had success at Elko Speedway while Mondeik has seen the checkered flag at State Park Speedway. Both will have their notes and setups ready for Saturday night.
John DeAngelis Jr. is another rookie contender trying to make his way to the top of the Rookie standings. He is ready to make a statement starting at the Wayne Carter Classic.
With a $1,000 bonus on the line this Saturday night, this is a competitive field to challenge Majeski and end his streak. This will be a “Must See” race to see in person this Saturday night.
Spectator gates will open at 3pm with qualifying at 5pm and racing will get underway at 7pm. The Mid-American Series and Illini Midgets will also be in action on Saturday night.
