The Stars and Cars of the Midwest Tour Invade Elko Speedway for the Thunderstruck 93

by Kari Shear-Carlson / Sep 22, 2015 – If there is ever a time to watch locals battle against the Stars and Cars of the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by Scag Power Equipment, this Saturday, Sep 26 at Elko Speedway, is the time. The Midwest Tour returns for the 7th Annual Thunderstruck 93 presented by NAPA.

The 125-lap race is in memory of the late Dan Ryan, who passed away on January 2, 2009 from ALS. Ryan was a well-liked and well-respected driver at Elko Speedway. He was inducted into the Elko Speedway Hall of Fame in 2008. The race’s name, Thunderstruck, is representative of Ryan’s favorite song by AD/DC, and 93 was his car number. Dan raced at Elko Speedway from 1991-2003. There will be a 10-minute break at lap 93 of Saturday night’s 125-lap event.

The Midwest Tour Stars and Cars will have their work cut out for them going up against, not just tough local competition, but former Midwest Touring Stars and Champions, along with newly crowned track champions and series’ champions. Jacob Goede, Dan Fredrickson, Nick Panitzke, and Joey Miller, are just a few that will play host to Ty Majeski, Skylar Holzhausen, Austin Nason, Ricky Baker and the rest of the Midwest Tour.

Saturday night marks the 11th time the Midwest Tour returns to Elko Speedway. Many top names in Midwest racing have participated in past events, and the winners list is full of some of the best of the best in short track racing.

Past winners include a mix of locals and Midwest Touring Stars. Local driver and former Midwest Tour Champion, Jonathan Eilen won the very first Elko Speedway event with the Midwest Tour in 2007. Other former Midwest Tour Champions, such as, Steve Carlson, Andrew Morrissey, and Dan Fredrickson found themselves in victory lane. Fredrickson is also a local favorite, the most recent winner of the event, and the only multi-time winner with the Midwest Tour at Elko Speedway. Other winners included Ross Kenseth, Skylar Holzhausen, and Travis Sauter. Jake Ryan, son of the late Dan Ryan, won the Midwest Tour event in 2008.

The ARCA Midwest Tour will be joined by the Hornets, Legends, Big 8 Late Model Series, and Power Stocks. It will be a jam-packed day of racing that you won’t want to miss!

Spectator gates will open at 3:00pm. An autograph session will begin at 3:05 until 3:45, so be sure to get there early. Qualifying and heat races will begin at 4:00pm with opening ceremonies to follow at 6:00pm.

NO CAMPING will be allowed this year.
