Local Heroes Up For the Challenge At Wisconsin International Raceway
by Series PR
August 8, 2014-Terry Baldry has been having incredible seasons since before the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by Scag Power Equipment was even created. If twelve track championships and over 30 seasons of mastery at WIR sounds like an advantage, you will want to keep an eye on Baldry in this Saturday’s Calypso Lemonade 100 presented by Scag Power Equipment at Wisconsin International Raceway (WIR).
Baldry will be driving for Mike Butz in his 2014 Lefthander Chassis. “We’ve raced together forever, and each won a lot of championships … it was a pretty easy choice really,” said Butz about putting Baldry in the car. “You need the locals. Fans want to see their local heroes drive against the ARCA Midwest Tour regulars.”
WIR is Mike Butz’s home track, and with Baldry having more laps around WIR than most, they may have the winning combination. When asked how he feels about the car for the upcoming race, he said, “I feel confident in my car here. Terry is a great driver, we should be good to go.”
Mike has been involved with a number of successful drivers, but for the upcoming Caylpso Lemonade 100, Ty Majeski may be the most important. Ty drove for him all last year at WIR. Butz said that when it comes to beating Majeski at Kaukana, “Its like any race. Luck is a big factor, you never know what’s going to happen around you. Ty’s got a great season going but it could be anyone’s race.”
When asked who the toughest competition may be, Butz answered, “Travis Sauter, wherever he goes, is pretty tough competition. Keep in mind that Kaukauna has some local guys who are real contenders, it’s hard to say.”
Terry Baldry mentioned that Ty Majeski runs well at WIR, but knows that he isn’t the only one he’s up against. “Travis and Johnny (Sauter) both run well there. Nathan (Haseleu) has run well there in past. To be honest with you, I’m pretty sure they will all be tough competition.”
When it comes to this Saturday’s Calypso Lemonade 100, Terry Baldry is looking forward to just being able to race again. “I’ve only raced once this year and am glad to have this chance to drive for Mike and Patty. Quite a few of my track championships have been with them, as well as the Red, White and Blue championships. There is quite a bit of history there.”
“With Mike and Patty, it’s still like back in the day. Driving for them is different than most. For me, it’s like a big family, it’s like we are part of their family. Even my wife has said that you don’t find a lot of people like that, that they care about you and your family as their own,” said Baldry.
Terry is very humble when it comes to him having an advantage of his rich racing history at WIR over the Tour drivers. “Back when I was racing full time, the tires were a little different. They will probably have a bigger advantage over me than me over them. Obviously I will know how the track changes as the day goes on, but I’m not sure that is going to make as big of a difference as it used to with the way the cars are now.”
Terry will also drive the same car for the next ARCA Midwest Tour stop in Norway, Michigan. “I’ve raced 20-25 races at Norway, won 3 MARS races, and 3 State Line Challenge races. The last time I raced there was for Mike almost 4 years ago. I have always liked that track and had some decent success there also. It should be a great show for the fans.”
The Calypso Lemonade 100 will be followed up next Friday for the Norway 100 at Norway Speedway on August 15th.
