Sommers Propels to Point Lead With Sauter Victory

Updated Point Standings

By: Kevin Ramsell
(Oregon, WI) – After becoming the first two-time winner of the Jim Sauter Classic 200 at Dells Raceway Park this past Saturday night, two-time defending ASA Midwest Tour champion Gabe Sommers has moved past Casey Johnson to take over the point lead with two events left on the 2025 schedule.

Sommers’ victory allowed him to leapfrog over the three-time ASAMT champion to now having a 16-point advantage heading into the Thunderstruck 93 on Saturday, September 20th at Elko Speedway in Elko, MN.

Johnson, who has three victories so far this season, has had a bad luck streak going for him in the last three events, allowing Sommers to close in and surpass him.

A 26th-place finish in the Gandrud Auto Group 250 at Wisconsin International Raceway, a sixth-place finish in the Wayne Carter Classic 100 at Grundy County Speedway, and a 23rd-place finish this past Saturday night have put Johnson in a position for Sommers to challenge him for the title.

Meanwhile, Sommers posted a fifth-place finish in the Gandrud Auto Group 250, a third-place finish in the Wayne Carter Classic 100, and last Saturday’s victory to give him the lead.

Levon Van Der Geest is still in the hunt to challenge Sommers and Johnson, as he is only 52 points behind the leader.

Justin Mondeik is fourth, only 113 points back, and hopes to close in by defending his 2024 victory at Elko Speedway.

Kody King, fresh off his fifth-place finish in the Sauter Classic, is only 135 points behind Sommers.
