Milwaukee County Historical Society Joins Hands with the ASAMT to Remember Alan Kulwicki

June 8, 2012, Milwaukee, WI – The ASA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment and Lester Buildings and the Milwaukee County Historical Society are proud to announce a partnership agreement for the remainder of the 2012 season. For each remaining race on the ASA Midwest Tour schedule, the Milwaukee County Historical Society will award $100 to the driver that leads the 7th lap in honor of 1992 NASCAR Winston Cup Champion Alan Kulwicki. The “Alan Kulwicki Memorial Lap” will increase awareness of the Milwaukee County Historical Society’s brand new racing exhibit and experience, Alan Kulwicki: A Champion’s Story, which will open in early 2013. This amazing, one-of-a-kind experience will combine futuristic technologies like Augmented Reality, 3D projection mapping, and multi-touch kiosks with traditional elements including the display of artifacts and video presentations.

A Greenfield, Wisconsin native, Kulwicki finished second in the old American Speed Association standings in 1982 and 1985, and captured the 1983 Miller 200 in front of his hometown fans at the Milwaukee Mile. Kulwicki won five ASA events during his career. “We are excited to partner with the ASA Midwest Tour in celebrating Alan’s rich racing career,” said Scott Stroh, Executive Director, Milwaukee County Historical Society.

“While Alan is mainly recognized as a NASCAR champion, his accomplishments on the short tracks of Wisconsin and on the ASA circuit should be remembered as well. He, along with Dick Trickle, Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace, and others, made ASA the premier short track racing organization in the country, a proud legacy that we see continued in the ASA Midwest Tour,” added Stroh.

Stroh hopes that fans will use the 7th lap as a way to remember Alan. “We hope that fans will share their favorite memories of Alan with each other and with us, like his victory in the Miller 200 at the Milwaukee Mile or the time he took to shake their hand or sign an autograph.”

For the rest of the 2012 season, each ASA Midwest Tour competitor will carry a bright orange sticker with Alan’s name and the name of the new exhibit. The community’s first opportunity to see examples of the type of experience offered by Alan Kulwicki: A Champion’s Story, will occur at The Swiss Colony Howie Lettow Memorial 150, at the famed Milwaukee Mile, on June 12th. This interactive mobile experience will travel the state throughout the summer, so look for the Kulwicki banner at your favorite short track..
