2014 Championship Title Still on the Line
by Kari Shear-Carlson
July 29, 2014 – In less than two weeks, on August 9th, the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by Scag Power Equipment will be rolling into Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna, WI for the first time since 2011, for the Calypso Lemonade 100 presented by Scag Power Equipment. The last time the Tour took to the 1/2 mile oval, Tim Schendel of Sparta, WI took home the win ahead of Ross Kenseth.
Wisconsin International Raceway (WIR) has a rich history in Wisconsin racing. Located just west of Lake Michigan, the track is known for its unique D-shaped configuration which provides an additional challenge to some. Nonetheless some of the biggest names in racing have overcome that challenge over the years.
Late Wisconsin greats like Larry Detjens, Joe Shear, Dick Trickle, and Alan Kulwicki are just part of the long list of drivers to have found success at the track. Wisconsin’s own, and NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion, Matt Kenseth, won championships at the track in 1994 and 1995. The list goes on and on and names continue to be added every year.
When the Tour returns to the track on August 9th, it will be a critical event for the current championship point standings. After his win at Cedar Rapids, Ty Majeski is currently tied with Nathan Haseleu. In the event in 2011, Haseleu finished fourth behind fellow Touring Star, Andrew Morrissey. Majeski is no stranger to the track himself, having already been to victory lane there earlier this year.
The Calypso Lemonade 100 presented by Scag Power Equipment is the first of the final four events on the 2014 schedule. Norway Speedway, Elko Speedway, and the famed Oktoberfest will round out the season. With the tight race to the Championship, you’ll want a front row seat to each and every remaining event.
