Rockford’s Best takes on Nation’s Best at Rockford Oval
Loves Park, IL- Rockford’s National Short Track Champion Jon Reynolds, Jr will protect his home turf against two time and defending ARCA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Champion Ty Majeski, recognized as the Nation’s Top Super Late Model Driver, in a just announced Match Race this Saturday Night June 11 at Rockford Speedway. The two prominent drivers will battle one on one during the $1000 Match Race, part of the Kar Korner All-Star 100.
Majeski, the two time defending ARCA Midwest Tour Champion won the series’ most recent stop at Rockford, last June during the Kar Korner All-Star 100. Success came early at the quarter mile for the Seymour, WI native that was recently named to the NASCAR Next program and signed a driver development contract with Roush Fenway Racing. In just his second start at Rockford, Majeski captured the Big 8 Series portion of the National Short Track Championships, at the age of seventeen, his first major win in a late model. Fast forward and he is the Nation’s top Super Late Model driver, winning the World Series of Asphalt at New Symrna Speedway during Daytona Speedweeks, with three wins and finishing no worse than second, the same track that he won the prestigious Governor’s Cup months earlier. He also set a new track record during the Snowball Derby at Pensacola’s Five Flags Speedway, won the 40th annual Rattler at South Alabama Speedway before returning to the Midwest to win the first two ARCA Midwest Tour events, two weekly late model events at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway while collecting the winner’s hardware during his only stop at Wisconsin International Raceway to date.
But not to be outdone is Driver X, Jon Reynolds, Jr. When the spotlight shines at Rockford Speedway, there may not be a driver whose star shines brighter than Reynolds. Driver X as he is known by the Rockford faithful is the all-time winner on the Big 8 Series with eleven triumphs and the 2005 Championship to his credit. Five of those wins have come at his home track’s marquee events, Spring Classic and National Short Track Championships. Twice he has won the Star Spangled 76 at Rockford, he is the only two time winner of the Ultimate Challenge, a bonus for the driver electing to start at the tail of the feature field in hopes of collecting the win and money. The former Slinger Super Speedway Champion has amassed victories at not only Rockford and Slinger but Dells Raceway Park, Madison International Speedway and Jefferson Speedway. The 2014 Rockford Speedway Champion achieved a lifetime goal last fall when he wheeled his Super Late Model into victory lane and wore the victory wreath after 200 grueling laps during the 50th anniversary running of the National Short Track Championships. Reynolds, like Majeski has started 2016 strong, recording the win the last time Late Models were in action at Rockford just two weeks ago.
The $1,000, best two out of three match race, consisting of three lap segments will determine who the winner is on Saturday night. Lane choice will be determined by a coin flip for the first and final segments prior to feature racing action. Five features in total will be contested on Saturday night. In addition to the ARCA Midwest Tour Super Late Models in the Kar Korner All-Star 100, the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models and RoadRunners will both run ‘Gilley’s Double Features’. Spectator gates open at 5pm, qualifying gets underway at 5:55pm with the first race at 7:07pm.
