Majeski’s Magical Championship Season

by Kari Shear-Carlson / November 25, 2015 – With his second consecutive ARCA Midwest Tour presented by Scag Power Equipment Championship, a record six series wins, a total of 18 fast times and 18 wins at 12 different tracks throughout his season, a recent win in the Governor’s Cup at New Smyrna Speedway, and being crowned the first ever Kulwicki Driver Development Program (KDDP) Champion, it is safe to say Ty Majeski has created one of the most decorated resume’s in short track racing in 2015.

In 2014, Majeski caught the eyes of his midwestern competitors, capturing both the ARCA Midwest Tour Championship and Rookie of the Year title in the same year. He backed it up in 2015 with six wins in the series, and taking home yet another championship, this time capturing the attention of some of the biggest names in racing, including Dale Earnhardt Jr, who mentioned Majeski as the real deal in a recent tweet.

If you ask Majeski what his secret to success is, his response is simple. “Racing’s been a part of me since I was nine years old. I live, eat, and breathe it. If I’m not racing, I’m thinking about racing, or I’m on my iRacing simulator.”

The young driver has been compared to another consecutive Midwest Tour Champion, and short track racing legend, Steve Carlson. Short track success isn’t the only common denominator between the two.

“I’ve learned a lot from Steve (Carlson). My crew chief, Toby Nuttleman, was Steve’s crew chief when he was racing the Midwest Tour. We won our championships with the same team. Our cars came out of the same shop. To be able to fill his shoes in that respect, is really special. He taught me a lot about being a race car driver,” said Majeski.

While racing consumes Majeski’s mind most of the time, he doesn’t let it take away from earning his engineering degree from the University of Madison.

“School is important, and you can’t count on racing 100%. You have to have a back-up plan. I think it’s important to get your degree to fall back on. Everything’s going great right now, so I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing and see how things play out,” he said.

Majeski is the type of driver that can make racing look easy at times, but one thing he and the team never stop doing, is striving to get better.

“As soon as you think you’re the best, it starts to decline, so we are always working to improve. We worked really hard through last year’s off season to get better, and it shows in our performance.”

Out of the 18 races the team’s performance took them to victory lane, there is one race that stands out more than any other. “I have always wanted a guitar, and I really wanted to get one this year. The ARCA Midwest Tour race at Elko Speedway was definitely the best race, Majeski admitted.

“Coming from the back, and then racing all the way to the line with Jacob Goede and Danny Fredrickson…that one was really big. That race definitely sticks out the most to me this season,” he added.

Ty will have another chance to add yet one more victory to his already impressive resume, as he heads to Pensacola, FL for the 48th Annual running of the Snowball Derby, Dec 2nd-6th.

Drivers from the Midwest are faced with a few challenges when racing in the South, but Ty had no problem overcoming those challenges with his win in the Governor’s Cup at New Smyrna Speedway.

“Southern competition is a little different than what we are used to in the Midwest. The rules are different and it’s just different racing. I think our win in the Governor’s Cup showed that we can race throughout the country, and that is really important,” said Majeski.

As he closes out his 2015 racing season, Ty Majeski and his team will be honored at the 2015 ARCA Midwest Tour Championship banquet on Saturday, February 6th, at The Marquis Ballroom in Fitchburg, WI.
