Even getting involved in an accident during the dash race didn’t stop Ty Majeski from earning his sixth win of the season in the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment on Saturday night at Dells Raceway Park in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.
Majeski was involved in an incident in the early going of the odd dash that caused extensive front end damage. His crew was able to make the necessary repairs in time to line up in his eighth starting position for the Bill Meiller Memorial 101-lap event.
In the early going, fans saw Bobby Kendall and Dennis Prunty trade the lead back and forth until the caution flew on lap 9 for Derek Kraus’s spin off of turn four. On the restart, Rich Schumann Jr. put himself into position to challenge Prunty for the top spot and would take over the lead on lap 14. Majeski would follow and move into second.
Majeski would follow Schumann around the 1/3-mile oval waiting for a chance to make a move for the lead. That opportunity came on lap 26 when Schumann got a little loose off of turn two and Majeski drove his car to the inside going down the backstretch. Majeski would come out of turn four as the new leader, but Schumann tried to get to the inside of Majeski, but Majeski was able to pull away.
Majeski would basically drive away unchallenged to his sixth victory of the season and inching him closer to a fourth straight ARCA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment title.
In victory lane, Majeski first thanked his crew for their hard work in getting the car back together after the heat race incident.
“For them to get it turned around and get it as right as they did, you barely even knew that something happened to it,” Majeski said. “It’s pretty remarkable for what they accomplished and to get it back out there, it’s pretty cool.”
The victory gives Majeski some breathing room towards that fourth title, with two races remaining in the 2017 schedule.
“I don’t know what the points look like, but I don’t think we even need to go to the last two,” Majeski said with confidence. “We should be at Oktoberfest for sure, not sure about Elko as I am running an ARCA race at Kentucky the day before that race. Overall it was a good night for us. The car was where it was needed to be and it got us another win.”
Dalton Zehr, on the heels of his first ARCAMT victory at the last event at Golden Sands Speedway, came home with a strong second place finish. He was hoping to have something for Majeski, but just missed the setup by a touch.
“It seemed like from lap five to eight, we could maintain with him (Majeski) but after that he had a good long run car,” Zehr explained. “We could only match his speed for that little brief time, but he had us covered. I would have liked to have made one more adjustment, but Ty was fast, and the fastest car won today.”
Chris Weinkcauf came home with another podium finish, with his third-place run.
“We have had some good momentum in the last couple of weeks, the car has been strong all year,” Weinkauf said smiling after the race. “We were just a little bit too tight throughout the whole race, we just need to free it up next time.”
Kendall finished fourth and Andrew Morrissey rounded out the top five.
