June 22, 2015 – In 2011, Ty Majeski found himself in victory lane at one of the toughest tracks in the Midwest. It wasn’t just any victory, however. It was his first ever late model victory. This Saturday, June 27th, Majeski will have a chance to find victory lane once again when he and all of the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by Scag Power Equipment Stars and Cars return to Rockford Speedway for the Kar-Korner All-Star 100.
To win at Rockford Speedway in any series is an accomplishment, but to win his first ever late model race during National Short Track Championship weekend, that’s something he will never forget. “At the time, that was my first and only, late model victory. We were really struggling in the Big 8 Series that year, so it was definitely my biggest win,” said Majeski.
Unlike many of the drivers he will be going up against, the current ARCA Midwest Tour point leader has not returned to the famed 1/4-mile oval since his victory in 2011. While it has been a few years since the 2014 ARCAMT Champion has been there, he is familiar with the strength of the competition and how it might differ from when he was there in 2011.
“There is a lot stiffer competition in the Tour. There are going to be a lot of great cars. With the Touring Stars, locals, and guys from the Chicagoland area, it’s definitely going to be tough.”
Rockford Speedway has a reputation of being a little ‘rough around the edges,’ so to speak. Majeski admits the greatest challenge is being able to pass, which may seem like common sense, but when it comes to this track, it has a meaning all its own.
“The track is a lot of fun when you’re running laps by yourself. It’s very unique,” said Majeski. “When you’re racing against others it can be frustrating. It’s so tough to pass because the outside holds so much momentum. You have to run almost up against the wall. But I think if we can get the car working on the bottom, we’ll be in good shape,” he added.
With that in mind, Majeski would love to win at the track in the highest level of Midwest short track racing. With the history that Rockford Speedway holds, winning isn’t just another accomplishment on a resume’.
“There is a ton of history at the track. You hear of Mark Martin and the success he and so many other Hall of Fame NASCAR drivers had there, to bring home the checkered flag would just be the cherry on top,” Majeski concluded.
This Saturday night, June 27th, spectator gates will open at 5:00pm. Qualifying will begin at 5:55pm with racing at 7:07pm. The ARCA Midwest Tour will also be joined by Super Cups and Rockford NASCAR Late Models.
