Salem, Indiana (August 3, 2021): 12-year-old Proctorville, Ohio native Carson Lucas picked up his third Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models feature win of the season Saturday evening at beautiful Birch Run Speedway. The win came at the track that hosted the inaugural series event in 2019.
The Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models are in their third season focusing on a youth movement for short track stock car racing that saw 10 to 15-year-old drivers compete amongst themselves for both experience and recognition in full size late models with an economical drive train and suspension alternatives.
12-year-old Austin, Indiana native Kaden White started off the day by being the Fast Qualifier, then used his outside pole starting position to grab the early lead in the feature on the third attempt to get the 20 lap feature started. White pulled out to a two car lead and looked to be on his way to his second feature win of the season when he looped his car around coming off turn two on lap 15.
Lucas would inherit the lead after White’s spin and would keep it on the next restart, holding off White’s challenge on the outside. Lucas would continue to lead as White closed to Lucas’s bumper looking for a way around. White would make one last charge as the pair raced to the checkered flags, but Lucas was able to hold on and grab the win.
“It feels really good to get my third win of the season,” remarked Lucas in victory lane. “I didn’t know if I would be able to catch White and try to make a pass, the outside groove is pretty bumpy here. Things worked out in our favor tonight and I’m excited to win in front of this great crowd. I want to thank my family, my crew and all my sponsors for all their support, I couldn’t do this without them!”
