(Oregon, WI) – Casey Johnson came into last Tuesday’s Gandrud Auto Group 250 at Wisconsin International Raceway with plenty of momentum after winning the last ASA Midwest Tour events. Especially coming to a track where he has success in the past, including winning the historic 250-lap event in 2017.
The three-time ASAMT champion is chasing his fourth title and came into the 44th running of the Gandrud Auto Group 250 hoping to extend his 52-point lead over two-time defending series champion Gabe Sommers.
After the checkered flag flew, that point lead has almost been cut in half as the lead as it is now just 27 points with four events remaining on the 2025 schedule.
The Edgerton, WI veteran found himself in a good starting position after qualifying eighth.
Fast qualifier Levon Van Der Geest’s roll of the dice created a 12-car invert for the 250, allowing Johnson to start on the inside of the third row. Johnson was cruising around in the top 12 until he pulled into the pits on lap 46 with an overheating motor, ending his night.
Sommers finished sixth to cut that lead down to 27 points. Levon Van Der Geest finished 12th and is now within 38 points of Johnson.
Justin Mondeik is 87 points back in fourth, and Riley Stenjem is 103 points behind Johnson in fifth.
The ASA Midwest Tour is back in action on Saturday, August 16th, with the Wayne Carter Classic 100 presented by Rod Baker Ford & D’Arcy Chevrolet at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, IL.
