July 9, 2012 – Andrew Morrissey, Nathan Haseleu, Jeff Storm, Austin Luedtke and Travis Sauter have been using their “spare” time to race in the Madison International Speedway Triple Crown Challenge. The ASA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment and Lester Buildings opened their season at MIS and will return on Sunday, August 5th for a second event.
The Triple Crown Challenge is held on three separate Friday nights throughout the season with its own special points system. The top 24 drivers will be locked in for a 150 lap feature on Saturday, September 22nd.
ECHO and ECHO Bear Cat Touring Star, Nathan Haseleu swept Round One of the Triple Crown Challenge winning both of the Twin 50 feature events earlier in June. This past Friday night, Travis Sauter, who won the ASAMT Howie Lettow Memorial 150 at the Milwaukee Mile earlier this season, won Round Two of the Triple Crown Challenge just barely edging out Haseleu.
Haseleu took the lead over last year’s ASAMT Champion, Andrew Morrissey with four laps to go in the first 50-lap feature taking home his third win in a row in the Challenge. Sauter finished fourth.
Sauter put a stop to Haseleu’s winning streak when he won the second feature. Haseleu finished in fifth giving Sauter the overall win by only one position.
The two top qualifiers Friday night were ECHO and ECHO Bear Cat Touring Stars Nathan Haseleu and Jeff Storm. ASAMT regular Travis Sauter was third, last year’s ASAMT Champ Andrew Morrissey was seventh and ASAMT Rookie Austin Luedtke was 11th.
The ASA Midwest Tour will enjoy two more weeks of summer before they head to Grundy County Speedway in Morris, IL for the Wayne Carter Classic ECHO Bear Cat 100 on Friday night July 20th. Both the ASA Midwest Tour Super Late Models as well as the ASA Midwest SCAG Truck Tour will be racing. Qualifying begins at 5:00PM with racing at 7:00PM.
