ARCA Midwest Tour Takes a Much Needed Break Before Next Event on August 9th
by Kari Shear-Carlson
July 9, 2014 – When Nathan Haseleu and Ty Majeski hit the track last Saturday night at Hawkeye Downs Speedway for the Coors Light Summer Shootout presented by McGrath Powersports and Liz Girl Logistics, they had more than one thing on their minds.
There is no question why the two of them were first and second in the point standings when the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by Scag Power Equipment headed into the Hawkeye State, and it is no surprise that the two are now tied for the top spot.
After the rains came pouring down for the better part of the day, it finally cleared up and the two put on a show that will long be remembered whenever the series returns to the 1/2-mile oval. They battled side-by-side for what seemed like forever, but Majeski eventually got the advantage and went on to add another win to his list in 2014, the first coming at Illiana Motor Speedway.
The battle between Haseleu and Majeski didn’t start there, however. Only eleven points apart going into the event, every point counted. Majeski broke the track record capturing yet another VDL Fuel Systems Fast Qualifier Award of the season turning a time of 18.360. Haseleu was right behind, qualifying in the second spot with an 18.461 and Griffin McGrath qualified third with an 18.475. Majeski also received a $1000 bonus from Start to Finish Pressure Washing for turning the fastest lap.
Chris Weinkauf had another impressive run, finishing in the second spot after a late race challenge for the lead and Haseleu rounded out the podium.
Ty Majeski also tied James Swan for the Hard Charger of the race advancing eight positions during the 100 lap event.
With Haseleu and Majeski tied for the top spot in points, Jonathan Eilen and Chris Weinkauf, which could each be titled, Mr. Consistency, are third and fourth, followed by Cardell Potter in the fifth spot. Majeski also leads the Rookie of Year point standings.
What makes the races this season so impressive are the levels of talent going up against one another. Nathan Haseleu, the 2007 Champion, is the only driver to have started every Midwest Tour event since its inception. Ty Majeski is in his first full-time season with the Tour. With so many levels of experience and talent in between, every event so far has been filled with excitement.
With a month long break before the next race, teams will have a chance to regroup and head into the remainder of the season strong. There is no doubt that Majeski and Haseleu will be coming out of the box on top of their game.
Wisconsin International Raceway is up next on the ARCA Midwest Tour schedule on Saturday, August 9th for the Calypso 100 presented by Scag Power Equipment. The last time the Tour was there in 2011, former Touring Star, Tim Schendel took home the victory followed by Ross Kenseth, Andrew Morrissey, and Nathan Haseleu.
