Luke Fenhaus wanted to start his 2022 ARCA Midwest Tour season by improving his finishing position from last year’s season opener. Last year, he finished second in the Joe Shear Classic opener at Madison International Speedway.
On Sunday, he made a bold statement at Slinger Super Speedway in Slinger, WI by winning the “Miracle at the High Banks” 75-lap feature event over Casey Johnson and Ty Majeski.
The 2022 Slinger Super Speedway track champion not only won the main event, but also won his Showdown 30-lap event and was also the fast qualifier to complete the sweep.
“It’s about time I knocked off the dust with the Midwest Tour,” Fenhaus said after taking home his first ARCA Midwest Tour victory. “We came up so close before, but could never get the win, so it was good to knock off the dust here at Slinger and see all of the fans.”
Fenhaus would take the lead for the first time on lap eight by getting by Slinger veteran Rich Loch.
He would lead until a restart on lap 35, when Alex Prunty would get by him and take over the top spot with Fenhaus right behind him.
Prunty would pace the field while battling side-by-side with Fenhaus.
On lap 58, Prunty and Fenhaus would make some contact coming out of turn four allowing Fenhaus get the lead back. Majeski would make contact with Prunty and lose a couple of spots to Johnson and Derek Kraus.
Fenhaus would lead the rest of the way to the checkered flag. Behind him, Casey Johnson would hold on to second. Majeski would get by Kraus on the last lap to get the final podium finish.
Gabe Sommers would round out the top five.
Alex Prunty would finish sixth with Jacob Nottestad in seventh. Jonathan Eilen was eighth with Levon Van Der Geest in ninth. James Swan rounded out the top ten.
Fenhaus will now be looking to make it two in a row at next Sunday’s Joe Shear Classic 200 at Madison International Speedway in Oregon, WI.
“We were good there last year and finished second to Rich Bickle,” Fenhaus recalled. “No downer there, but we have to come back stronger to Madison and that is the plan to go and sweep that one as well.”
