The top drivers in the Midwest and Chicagoland area have filed entries for this Saturday’s Wayne Carter Classic presented by Rod Baker Ford and Illinois Truck & Equipment at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Illinois. The fifth event of the 2018 season for the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment.
This year Rod Baker Ford and Illinois Truck & Equipment have sweetened the purse to make this event a $5,000 to win and $750 to start the 100-lap main event.
Austin Nason, fresh off his victory in the Kar Korner All-Star 100 at Rockford Speedway and won the Joe Shear Classic earlier this year, will be hoping to extend his point lead in the ARCA Midwest Tour standings and pick up another big win this season. Nason currently holds a 12-point lead over Casey Johnson and Paul Shafer Jr., who is 27 points back.
The top-three in the standings will be at Grundy County Speedway along with Dalton Zehr, who is fourth in the standings, only 28-points behind Nason. Cabin Fever 100 winner Andrew Morrissey is fifth in the points and will be looking for his second victory this season on Saturday night.
Other Touring Stars that have filed entries include: The Ironman Jonathan Eilen, John DeAngelis Jr., Michael Ostdiek, Justin Mondeik, Rich Bickle Jr., Chris Weinkauf, and Jason Weinkauf.
ARCAMT Touring Star Ricky Baker will be looking to become a back-to-back winner in the Wayne Carter Classic after winning over a fierce battle with four-time Tour champion Ty Majeski last year. Baker recently won the Frank Welch Memorial at Grundy County Speedway.
Baker is bringing many of his Chicagoland competitors to this year’s classic battle of the Midwest vs. Chicagoland’s Best. A battle dating back to the first ARTGO Series event at Grundy County Speedway in 1976.
Some of the Chicagoland hot shoes include: The Legendary Larry Schuler, former National Short Track Champion Josh Nelms, multiple track champion and former ARTGO champion Fast Eddie Hoffman, former NASCAR Truck Series competitor Erik Darnell, former Illiana and Grundy Champion Anthony Danta, Scott Koerner, John Nutley, Pat Kelly and Garrett Schwartz.
ARCAMT rookie contenders will be hoping to make a big impression on Saturday night. Those contenders include: John Beale, Billy Mohn, Jeff Holmgren Jr., Dillon Hammond and Ryan Farrell.
If that isn’t enough, former Dixieland 250 winner Nick Murgic, Jim Olson, Curt Tillman, and Matt Kocourek will also be looking at the $5,000 check.
Spectator gates will open at 4:30pm with qualifying at 5pm. An autograph session will follow qualifying with racing starting at 7pm. The Mid-Ams, Midwest Compacts and Illini Midgets will also be in action this Saturday night.
Admission is: Adults (18+) – $20.00, Seniors (62+) – $18.00, Student (12-17) – $10.00, Children 11 & under are Free.
