The sixth event of the 2019 season for the ARCA Midwest Tour will take place this Tuesday (August 6th) at Wisconsin International Raceway near Kaukauna, WI for the Dixieland 250.
The race will pay $10,000 to win and $1,200 to start. The feature will start 30 cars.
The Big 8 Series will also be in action with their Dixieland Delight 38-lap feature event, they are expecting over 20 entries from top weekly Late Model teams from across the region.
The front gates will open at 4pm with qualifying at 5pm. Racing will get underway at 7pm. A fan autograph session will get underway at 6pm.
Tickets are $20 with ages 12 & under getting free admission.
Pit gate will open at 10am. A rotating practice with the ARCAMT and the Big 8 Series will begin at 2:15pm. The grandstands will be open, but fans will be asked to exit prior to the official fan gate opening at 4pm.
Past Dixieland Winners- Rich Bickle, Jr won this event under the ARTGO Challenge Series sanctioning in 1989. Dennis Prunty took home the ARCA Midwest Tour winner’s check in 2016 while Casey Johnson was declared the winner in 2017.
Red, White and Blue State Champions- Three time Red, White and Blue State Champion Jeff Van Oudenhoven is joined by Bobby Kendall who was crowned RWB Champion in 2017 and again in 2018. The newest driver to add their name to the RWB record books is Maxwell Schultz, Schultz edged out Casey Johnson and Blue race winner Ty Majeski to score the title this past Thursday night.
Cup Connection- Daniel Hemric, driver of the #8 RCR Chevrolet in the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series will make his first appearance in Midwest Tour competition. Hemric, from Troutman, NC native posted a third place effort following the Redbud 400 at Anderson Speedway last month in his most recent Super Late Model start. He has teamed up with Chris Wimmer, who was part of the winning effort last year for Chase Purdy.
MAC Attack- Eddie MacDonald has teamed up with the Pathfinder Chassis team to compete for the win Tuesday Night. This team joined Matt Kenseth in victory lane following July’s Slinger Nationals and MacDonald drove to a ninth place showing this June with them in Milwaukee. The Massachusetts driver recently recorded his 11th career triumph at New Hampshire Motor Speedway where he only trails 2007 Dixieland winner Kyle Busch in the all-time wins column. He is a former winner of the Oxford 250 in Maine and has won at Bristol, TN, where he won one of his seven K&N East wins.
Fox River Racing Club Champions- In addition to five time Fox River Racing Club Champion Jeff Van Oudenhoven, 2017 FRRC Champion Andy Monday and 2018 FRRC Champion Casey Johnson are amongst those entered for Tuesday’s $10,000 to win race.
Badger Boys Do Good- Both Ty Majeski and Derek Kraus have scaled their schedules back in their Super Late Model efforts, but both will be back behind the wheel Tuesday night. Majeski, a four-time Midwest Tour Champion put the nation on notice after he clicked off an impressive three ARCA Menards Series wins at Charlotte, Pocono and Chicagoland. Majeski swept the Blue Race this past Thursday at WIR. Kraus, the youngest driver in Tour history has his sights set on another bit of history, becoming the first driver to win two NASCAR Touring Championships in a single season. He is the current point leader in the NASCAR K&N West Series and sits second in the K&N East Series, having led those points heading into the last race. He has five wins in K&N races this year.
On-Point- Casey Johnson comes into Tuesday night leading the ARCA Midwest Tour Point Standings by 15 markers over Austin Nason. Likewise, Johnson, the defending Thursday night Fox River Racing Club Champion at Wisconsin International Raceway holds a 5 point advantage over Maxwell Schultz. Johnson has two wins in Tour action (Jefferson, Rockford) and two weekly wins at WIR in 2019.
Win Big in 2019- Second place Tour points man Austin Nason recorded the biggest win of his career Father’s Day Sunday at the Milwaukee Mile. Likewise, Gabe Sommers recorded the biggest win of his career last week during the Larry Detjens Memorial 125 at State Park Speedway, featuring the ‘Stars and Cars’ of the ARCA Midwest Tour.
Tour Champs- They have not run in Midwest Tour competition since Milwaukee in June, but three former ARCA Midwest Tour Champions will return to action Tuesday night. Andrew Morrissey, who won the most recent long distance Midwest Tour event, the Oktoberfest 200 last October in LaCrosse was the 2011 Champion. Dan Fredrickson came up just one position short of victory last August in the Dixieland 250, the 2008 and 2013 Champion looks to correct that Tuesday. Ty Majeski, the runner-up at Milwaukee was the 2014-2017 Tour Champion.
Kulwicki Konnection- There are three Kulwicki Driver Development Drivers entered in Tuesday Night’s Dixieland 250. Paul Shafer (IN), Carson Kvapil (NC) and Luke Fenhaus (WI) are all battling for a $54,000 bonus at season’s end. Shafer is the 2013 Illiana Motor Speedway Champion while Fenhaus captured the 2018 title at State Park Speedway in Wausua. Additionally, two past Kulwicki Cup Champions are competing as well, Ty Majeski (WI) and last year’s KDDP Champion Brett Yackey will be making the voyage from Greeley, CO.
Racing Round Up Live Broadcast from WIR
Veteran Wisconsin motorsports broadcaster Jim Tretow will host a live radio remote of “The Racing Round Up Show” at the fan entry gates beginning at 6:00pm on Tuesday at WIR. The show will feature Driver Interviews, with timely event updates throughout the special 45-minute live program. The show will be carried live in Wisconsin’s two largest markets on The Big 920 (WOKY-AM, Milwaukee) and on The Big 1070 (WTSO-AM, Madison). The broadcast will also be streamed live on the show’s website, www.racingroundup.net. “The Racing Round Up Show” is in its 35th season covering the Wisconsin racing scene and the world of Motorsports.
