ARCA Midwest Tour Makes its Return to Hawkeye Downs Speedway This Saturday Night, July 5th

July 1, 2014 – After a nail-biting 100 lapper at Dells Raceway Park this past Saturday night, the points battle for the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by Scag Power Equipment tightened up a little more between Nathan Haseleu and Rookie of the Year point leader, Ty Majeski.
Majeski had another impressive showing on Saturday night, finishing in the second spot behind winner Travis Sauter. Jonathan Eilen finished in the final podium position also not to be counted out in the points race. With his second place finish, and Nathan Haseleu finishing in fourth, Majeski was able to close in on the current point leader.
Heading into the Coors Light Summer Shootout presented by McGrath Powersports and Liz Girl Logistics this Saturday at Hawkeye Downs Speedway, only 11 points will separate the two.
Travis Sauter was a favorite going into last Saturday night’s event. Chris Wimmer started on the pole and had what appeared to be the car to beat. Once Sauter caught up to him, the two put on a great show. Unfortunately Wimmer’s chance at a victory was cut short as he was off the pace with mechanical problems with only 25 laps remaining, handing the victory over to Sauter.
Had there been another 25 laps, Sauter may have had a challenge by none other than his father, Tim Sauter. Tim Sauter started 21st and had moved his way through the field only have a tire go down. After going to the pits, changing the tire and receiving the lucky dog to get back on the lead lap, Sauter flew through the field all the way up to the fifth spot in about 15-20 laps. Had the circumstances been in his favor, it very well may have been a Sauter, Sauter show.
It was no surprise that Travis Sauter had a fast car as he was also the VDL Fuel Systems fast qualifier, turning a 13.301. Dan Lensing was second with a 13.360 followed by Nick Barstad with a 13.365.
Nathan Haseleu continues to hold on to the point lead with 1004 points. Majeski is in second with 993 points followed by Jonathan Eilen with 964. Chris Weinkauf and Cardell Potter round out the top five
It has been a couple years since the ARCA Midwest Touring Stars have been to Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids, IA. The last time they were there was in 2011 when Jonathan Eilen came out victorious after having suffered a season ending back injury there in 2010.
The Coors Light Summer Shootout and Music Festival is going to be an exciting event with lots of entertainment for the entire family. In addition to the ARCA Midwest Tour headliner event, the night will also include the Merv Chandler Memorial Hornet race as well as two live concerts.
